I have been riding clipless for years, but I am sick of the shoes, so I switched over to clips and straps, but I feel like I don't have as much control. I thought I would be doomed to goofy Velcro shoes forever, until I came across DZR shoes.

now they problem is that I use Speedplay fog pedals because of the copious amount of float (my knees will not tolerate anything else), but the cleats are quite large and the cleat window on the shoes are pretty deeply recessed. Does anyone know if Speeplay Frog cleats are compatible with DZR shoes? I contacted the company, but they did not know either.

haven't tried, but i have the rondel and it seems like it's really designed for m520s or other spd/eggbeater pedals. it may work, the frog has a pretty small cleat compared to the speedplays i remember seeing.

what i do for shoes i get that don't fit the frog pedals is just cut away little half-circles from the shoe's tread where the cleat needs extra space. it doesn't harm the shoe in any way. just a frustrating half hour and your soles are forever converted to s.p.frog acceptance.

I really have no idea how big speedplay cleats are, but maybe you know how big eggbeater stuff is so here's some shots for comparison. Figure these can probably help some people get an idea what the recess is like:

I really do like these shoes, DSH are your eggbeaters flush against the sole to clip in?

Yeah they're just barely touching. You can notice a really slight spongey feel to the float because of it. It's a little more noticeable with Smartys because of the bigger platform, but I'm still able to clip in and out without any problem.

The speedplay cleats are a bit bigger than the eggbeater cleats, here are some more detailed pics

The nice people at DZR said the window clearance is 4.3cm by 7.4 cm (thats 1.7" x 2.9")so it looks like they will fit! (if you can see in the pics, they are 1.5"X 2" which is 3.81 x 5cm).

They also said that Johnny Sprockets just ordered shoes, so if you are in Chicago you (and I) can go try them on!

I have Rondels with Crank Bros cleats currently installed. I also have some Frog cleats kicking around in my basement. I'll do a test fit tonight and post my results here. My fear would be that since the cleat mounting points are not always centered on this style shoe that it might not have enough room side to side.

dsh, i love the combination of casual shoes and carbon Force cranks!

As promised...

The shoe on the right looking down has the cleat mounting holes not centered in the opening. Will probably work. The shoe on the left has the cleat mounting holes almost centered and will work just fine. I did not mount them as I would have had to dig out the silicone I used to seal up the rest of the hole not covered by the cleat. Here's the tricky part. You can't tell if the cleat mounting holes are centered until you cut the cleat hole covers that are part of the sole of the shoe in case you don't want to use these with clipless pedals. (second to last pic) Makes me wonder it the provided cleat cover would even line up? (last pic)

Thanks for the detailed pics, I'll definitely get some when they come in (so I can try them on). I dont plan on using them as not clipless shoes. Are they stiff enough for riding/sift enough for walking?

Are they stiff enough for riding/sift enough for walking?

Yes. More on the stiff side, but definitely comfortable enough to walk around in all day.
