Hello all,
I recently purchased a single bike with campy ergo shifters and would now like to convert our tandem from Ultegra STI to Campy ergo. I didn't want to change our derailleur and cassette because I am pleased with the available gearing with shimano, 11-32. Does anyone have experience and or reccomendations with using ergo shifters with shimano xtr derailleur. The only other thing I would hate to give up is the flight deck computer. I really like being able to see what gear I am in on the computer. I don't know if I could get an Campy ERgoBrain computer to work with the shimano cassette. Thanks,
Dan B.

Have you seen these new gizmos?

There are two different adapters on the market; the Shiftmate to which "The Fixer" provided a link (http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/Shiftmate.asp) and the Shimagnolo Adapter which you can read about here: http://www.insidetri.com/train/bike/articles/1482.1.html
We have several tandem teams in our regular group who have the Shimagnolo adapters on both XT and XTR RD's running off Campy Ergo levers. There are two or three different models so you need to specify if you are looking to use Campy 9 or 10 speed Ergos with Shimano 9 speed RD's and cassettes.
On our personal tandems, I run Campy Ergo 9 levers with a Campy 9/10 long-cage rear derailleur and stock 9 speed cassettes from Shimano (Ultegra 12x27t & XT 11x32t) and have for many years; it just works.
The only other thing I would hate to give up is the flight deck computer. I really like being able to see what gear I am in on the computer. I don't know if I could get an Campy ERgoBrain computer to work with the shimano cassette.
There are a total of 8 cassette choices in the ErgoBrain9's menu and one is a reserved for user-programming of a custom cassette configuration. The seven other pre-programmed 9 speed cassette sizes are:11-21, 11-23, 12-21, 12-23,13-23, 13-26 and 13-28.
Also bear in mind, the Campy Ergo brain uses a cadence sensor instead of calculating "virtual cadence" which means you end up with a wire running from the computer mount to your front bottom bracket IF you want/need cadence.
Santana is selling tandems off the shelf with Campy 10. I believe they are using a Shimano XTR rear derailleur, a proprietary 10 speed cassette and an after-market chain. Wheels Manufacturing also makes a Campy-spaced 10 speed cassette that fits Shimano hubs, but the lowest gear is a 27.
I would think Co-Motion is also selling Campy 10 so maybe they would sell you their setup since you have a Co-Motion?
Maybe some of the aftermarket wheel/hub/tandem specialists make a hub that will accept a Campy freehub assembly?
