9 speed iF Reach and several Strida models are on sale on giltman.com (registration required). You can get a iF Reach for $1199 + $33 shipping. Whether this is worth the risk of no LBS support is your personal call.

Rad Inovations has both Reach models listed on their site for about half price.

Is the Reach considered an "entertaining essential"?

Don't think this is where I'd want to purchase a high-end folding bike.

I don't see it on there. Maybe it sold out?

I just checked and it was still there. It's under Man > Areaware Bikes > iF Reach Bicycle.

Weird... my eyes skipped right over it somehow. At any rate, that's a great price. I couldn't find the same bike anywhere for less than $1600 or more.

For those unfamiliar with sites like Gilt Groupe, they usually don't stock the items that they get. The business model is that some supplier (retail or wholesale) will want to reduce inventory and instead of doing it through their normal channels/website, they'll do it through Gilt Groupe, Eziba, Woot or some other similar "deal" site. This allows them to keep their prices up for their other channels/website.

So, if you have a problem with it, getting service would likely be an interesting adventure. It's all about making selling things - not service IMO. So be prepared.

I agree, F2. This is priced for sale... not for after purchase service. The best bet, if one decides to take this deal, is to contact your LBS to have them give the bike a once-over when it arrives. If you have a good relationship with an LBS, service shouldn't be a problem.

That said... I have a Bike Friday Tikit... so I'm kinda talking out of both sides of my mouth here. I get great service from BF, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. The deal on this bike would have to be even more than this for me to consider switching at this point. :)

You're right, was unaware that Pacific was marketing the Reach under two different categories. R-I seems to be unloading discontinued models. I also noticed they are no longer listed as the North American distributor.

They now seem to have a couple in the US, so maybe the Gilt deal would be OK. I'd check with one of the distributors before purchasing. They could also point you to a dealer.
