they blink, take rechargable AAA's and turn off by holding the button for a second. also, they fit lots of widths of bars and posts. i can fit the front over my 31.8 bars around the section that also has a brake cable and bartape on it.
short of the magicshine, these are the most impressive i've seen for the least money.
magicshine tail looks awesome, and the front isn't bad either. i have a P7-D emitter on a flashlight sometimes i attach to my helmet.

Front: 2 knog skinks (soon to be replaced with a fenix ld20 once it finally arrives from dealextreme all the way in hong kong)
Rear: pdw radbot 1000
Knog frog on the fork blade, knog Beetle on the headtube and seatpost.

Brigh LED Headlamp on head/helmet.
Superflash or similar on seat post.

For distance riding Magic Shine on the front with a planet bike blinker below the seat clamp.
For city riding I throw on my magic shine rear tail light.
That is 700+ lumens on the headlight and 200+ on the tail. When cars see you coming they think you are a motorcycle. It is awesome to have them actually stop.
That being said next season I am going to break down and get a dynohub front wheel instead of relying on battery packs.

i used to think the superlash was bright too...til i got the radbot.
it's ridiculous.

i like pdws stuff, but the superflash is already really bright even with lots of city lights and has more than triple the battery life of the radbot. i do like a one watt headlight over a half watt.
if i didnt have lights and didnt want to helmet mount, id probably try the boomer. it too gives up battery life to the superflash, but the attachment is nice.
i think the height and directability of helmet mounting make it the best option if you can get with the aesthetic or lack thereof.
Here is the 900 lumen front light (think Motorcycle light brightness), and the 50 lumen "blackburn flea" on the helmet. Yeah, the handlebar mount is 20 times brighter, so the flea is kinda redundant and good for a backup/spare.

what kind of mount for the fenix?
probably one of the twofish blocks: http://www.twofish.biz/bike.html
i ran an ld20 like this for years 'til the flashlight crapped out, then replaced it with another cree light of similar specs (not nearly as nice as the ld20, but much cheaper)
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e179/ichitz/ichitz_mercier05.jpg
What's that bell on your bike? I need one with a wide clamp, and it looks like you have it around the spacers, just the kind of bell I need.
In the back is a PB superflash clipped onto my belt, or my bag if I'm wearing a bag. Knog beetle in the front (butt-useless for illumination, but good enough to be seen).
For longer road rides that are going to be on less well lit/higher speed roads I'll attach a second superflash to the back of my helmet and throw the magicshine on the front.

I too use to think the PBSF was bright till it broke after just 8 months of ownership, it just stopped working and PB never sent me a new one back under warranty nor respond to my e-mails. Then I bought a Blackburn Mars 4.0 and that light is far brighter then the PBSF and it's made out of better plastic, but I've only had it for 5 months so long term durability is not in yet. The one thing I did discover about the Mars 4 is that the battery life on steady is about 15 hours and about 50 on flash, though it's difficult to guage real well; but I don't care since I use rechargeable bats and I charge them after every 3rd or 4th ride anyways. I wish someone would do a comparison of the Mars 4 with the Radbot 1000. By looks alone the Radbot appears to be poorly constructed like the PBSF, but I would have to see one in person to judge that adequately.

He could just ride against the traffic... :innocent:
Not if he pedals it backwards, or leads the team of reindeer for Santa Claus' sleigh this year in a blizzard ?
Nice FUJI Obey too !
Squirrelli
10-20-10, 10:16 PM
I don't think it's an Obey, the headbadge is different and looks like it has horizontal dropouts with fender eyelets. Also, the fork has a lot of clearance, seems like an old 27" fork...
And I don't think the brake bridge is intended for recessed brake mounting.
i had no clue PB has a black SF! Where did you get it? I was thinking about painting the housing on my white SF black!
i spray painted it :D
Or u can get the clear lens PBSF. It's red when it's lit. But that wasn't available when i got mine, so i just sprayed it.

niice. I think the other good thing about the Fenix light vs. bike specific front light is that I use it for non-bike related things too. Haha. Around the house, bbq, camping trips, etc. It's been great so far.

My double light set up. I ride with the knog boomers when just out and about down town. The magicshine head and tail light will get used when my commute gets darker. I have to ride on a 55mph road for four miles and want to make sure I'm visible. There's a bike lane, which is nice, but I've witnessed many drivers swerving into it and using it as a buffer zone while texting/eating/etc.
I've actually stopped on the side of the road and just watched the faces of passing drivers. its absolutely amazing how little attention most people are paying to the road, especially in the morning on the way to work. I want to make sure they have no choice but to be aware of my presence.
I use hose clamps right now. They are cheap and real secure but they are scratching my handlebar up and take a while to screw and unscrew.

They're nice if you have wide handlebars, and if your barends actually face to the rear. My lady has a set.

I have 40 wide bars with ends facing the rear and I use bar end lights on the flashing mode due to battery drain, but the bar is plenty wide enough at 40. But I have other rear lights to back those up, including a Blackburn Mars 4.0 stays on the constant mode on the seat post; and the helmet light which flashes, again for bat purposes.

This is the setup I run on my commute and late night club ride bike uses. Three settings...solid beam and two mind altering convulsion inducing disco flashes. Plus it's under twenty bucks and includes batteries.

Now if you just would add a disco ball rotating over your bicycle you would really have something!

they are called Soma Road Flares.
they are great i think if used how they are intended, in the ends of drop bars (or any bars with rear facing ends). i have some, and i think they are nice looking but better, sometimes i start riding before turning on my lights (just force of habit) then turn the front one on when i start riding. but then reaching behind you to turn on a rear light is annoying and potentially dangerous....so its nice being able to turn on both front and rear lights from the handlebars.
anywho my 2cents.

Agreed, illd.
They also work wonderfully with moustache bar.
