Just a few more photo's, I need to find a tiny rack to fit over the wheel (I could possibly alter a front pannier rack that I have), I'd like to hide the hub as well as I can. Do any other's try to hide their hub for safety??

Why are you trying to hide the hub motor for?

For the reason my post suggests........safety

Safety? Safe from what? Safe from who? Safe from rain? Safe from sunlight? Safe from bird poop? Safe from little children laughing at it? Safe from your wife/girlfriend finding out you spent money?
Be a little more specific.

with not clear ebikes regulations one doesn't want to attract attention during summer on bike path, in my city Calgary people were fined, NO MOTORIZED VECICLES it saya when I enter path.
He want to hide motor.

I think the Alberta Laws allow it, miro13car, has a good resource right in Calgary, the itselectric.ca store. There is some info
at:
http://www.itselectric.ca/contact.html
I bought a conversion kit when I was living in northern alberta from them, and was happy with the information.
I had the batteries in one of their packs that made it look like a canvas carrier you would have on any bike.
I also liked the key switch that was built into the pack.
The hub motor was not quite as big as the one you have, and people just thought it was some form of
brake.
Also many years ago,
I was able to ride on the Calgary bike path from the Western side to the Zoo, and was very pleased with it.
Trikin, I would think, it would be in how you approach other people on the path. Zooming by faster than anyone on the path, would
prompt problems. But ringing the bell, and gently passing, would not raise any questions at all, especially pedalling at the same time.
You could check with ebike.ca, which I think may not be far from you, to find out more info on the BC laws.
Another source of information is also www.ebike.ca (http://www.ebike.ca).
Let us know how it turns out!, and nice setup for your bike!

Well we don't know where Trikin is from. In most areas of the US an E-motor is not something to be ashamed of so there's no reason to hide it. I have posted in the past that in my state (Jllinois) the ebike regulations clearly state that an ebike is to be considered the same as a non-ebike and is subject to the same rules and regulations of a non-ebike. Therefore, those old signs on the bike path that state "no motors" in my opinion do not apply to ebikes. They wer put there for gas driven 3 and 4 wheelers, scooters and such. I have even spoken to the local poice that patrol the trails and theyy never said a word about my e-motor. And yes it was running when I pased them on the path before talking to them. This is not to say that all states are the same. Or that some areas may have special regulations for ebikes that may not allow them. In my state we can not ride on a sidewalk and you must be 16yo, max wattage of 750 and 20mph.

Hello......I live in B.C. near Vancouver. My concern is with the many homeless people in our area, many ride bikes (stolen??... maybe, maybe not) many have rickety trailers to carry their possessions some even have small gas motors driving their bikes........I could be just a little over cautious, but I'd really dislike losing my rig.
And i also thought small panniers might look kind of cool............

ITS ELECTRIC says in ABOUT US section:
"ebikes are legal on public streets..."
For sure if you are stopped and they find out that your ebike exceed 32km/h legal for ebike in Canada spped limit you are in trouble.
The ticket issued by by-law which I know about was for sppeding, but after stopping the person tey found out it was electric and they increased the fine.
For clarity provineces in Canada can set up own rules not necessery in agreement with federal law.
Bike paths are regulated by city no matter what federal law says.
Untill I see clear in writing I think ebikes are not allowed on Calgary paths.
wheelchairs allowed
Yoy might not be stopped for years but if sombody complains and they persistent, who knows what it might happen.
zooming around people like idiot without pedalling is asking for trouble for sure and if sombody complain to city it creates bad name for ebike.

Gee Sorry Guys..........All I said was safety, I know I'm being paranoid but I can't help it. I've been into trikes only 5 yrs, my 1st trike was a great tour machine but I had painful issues with hills and started thinking about a hub motor set-up. But when I got my Catrike Trail, I didn't feel as much discomfort. Although this past summer I was on a bike tour and while pulling a Bob Trailer (camping gear etc.) the hills were nearly unbearable. So now I'm trying out the Hub on my trailer and so far the performance is incredible. Here's a few pic's of the placement of a front bike rack i hope to fit to the rear wheel, I bought the pannier's for the trike but are a bit too small to carry much., might look good on the trailer.

Hello Liksmuzic.....this is kinda off topic but I was wondering about doing some touring in Alberta. I ride with a couple others (DFer's) and would like to expand our rides. Is there any good sites for Alberta bike routes?............thanks

Hello to Trikin', any questions about bikes is not really off topic on an bike forum!!!!
To tell you the truth, I rode my converted bike back and forth to work when I lived in Peace River, in northern Alberta.
Now I mainly ride on the bike trails here in Stony Plain, so as far as bike routes, I don't really know. I believe Calgary
has a very good trail throughout the city.
Over the years I would see groups of bicycles going through the parks between Alberta and BC. But at those times
it would be the summer time with a ton of cars on the roads, I always worried for the safety of the cyclists.
The transcanada friendship trail might be something to look into for an adventure.
I just googled a few things and saw this:
http://www.canadatrails.ca/biking/
Also talk to the staff of the different bike shops, some of them may have done some of the trips.
Also 2 years ago the fellow from ebike.ca went right across canada with an ebike. His blog may still
be somewhere on the net.
Looking outside today, and see 4 mm of snow kinda pushes biking from my mind!!!

Trikin, that is a beautiful rig you have there. I dont know if those saddle bags are going to stop people from having the urge to steal it. It might be best to get all your receipts together, double check your house insurance policy, then have fun riding !!!!
best of wishes to you

If you have even more "items" on your rig, it could attract even more attention to it...
Get a good lock and you wont have to worry about the bums stealing it.

175612176024176025Thanks guy's..........I've got a cable lock and a U-lock and I never leave my rig where I can't see it. I don't really live in fear that someone will steal it. I'm having so much fun with my ride I rarely make time to worry about anything when I'm riding
