Hello everyone,
I'm heading back to the Ashby and Laney flea markets this weekend to hunt for my bike (http://goo.gl/ZW2f) again. Only this time I'm hunting for everyone else's bikes as well. I will be making lists of bikes by make, model, style, and color, and posting them to Craigslist in near real time.
Why? In the hopes that the rightful owner can come and get their bike back. If they have taken the proper steps of recording their serial number and filing a police report, they can come and claim the bike free of charge (with law enforcement present). If not, they may have to pay.
Either way, I want the word to get out that recovering your stolen bike can be a real possibility. I also want to deprive the fencers at these markets the ability to profit from criminal acts and your pain.
Perhaps you've had your bike stolen in the past. Perhaps it's happened only just recently. It's no secret that it may happen sometime in the future regardless of preventative action. Most of these thefts are driven by the reality of a quick buck to be had from the folks selling them en masse at the markets.
Come help remove the incentive for most bike thefts in our area.
It's remarkably easy, it just takes sacrificing a little weekend time. Perhaps you wanted to peruse the markets anyway.
I'll be at the Ashby market (Ashby BART) by 8am this Saturday and the Laney market (Lake Merrit) by 8am this Sunday. I may go to the Coliseum market one of the days as well.
Grab a notebook and come on down. If you have a laptop or tablet computer, that would be fantastic. I can provide mobile wifi.
