I just bought a tire gauge, but when pressing it to the valve, the air started leaking immediately, losing much air! Are all gauges like this? I've never used them before. I'd prefer a fuller tire without knowing the pressure to knowing the pressure of an under-inflated tire.:(

My suggestion:- [1] use a floor pump with built-in gauge, and [2] in emergencies when using a hand pump just feel the tire pressure with your thumb.

All guages are not created equal. Some guages pop right on and off with very little hiss.

With a little practice you should be able to pop the gauge on and off with little loss of air.

Can I presume that this is for a presta valve? I've never had any problems with gauges made for schrader valves.

I was using schrader valve. It's this (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Zefal-Twin-Graph-Tire-Gauge-Bicycle-Presta-Schrader-/190454903285) zefal gauge.

I gave up on tire gauges for presta valves on road tires. I tried a couple, and even if they work well, the high-pressure, low-volume tires lose pressure quickly during the measurement. I bought an inexpensive floor pump with a gauge, and I bought a Road Morph G (pump with gauge) for the bike. These work well. The gauge on the Morph is a little hard to read for my old eyes, but I can get the pressure plenty close enough to finish the ride comfortably after a tire/tube repair. My $0.02.
