looking to build a set of custom wheels for XC racing only

I'm 205 and will be 190 or maybe 185 for race season next year

I currently have a set of bontager race lite wheels that are 1700 ish that came stock on my bike.

I'm not sure if I can get something built that is going to be any lighter and more sturdy than a set of crossmax St's or SLr's though

so what are some good options ?

You owe it to yourself to at least take a look at the Syncros FL Carbon wheelset:

Comes in at 1,488g. And that's with bombproof double-row-bearing hubs.

And after you're done taking a look at those, go to www.industrynine.net and pick out a stronger, lighter wheel with better hubs.

I think Stan's (http://www.notubes.com/rims.php?cPath=42_682) has a few options that offer a happy medium between weight and price. Maybe the ZTR Crest with your choice of hub. Probably less that $700/pair.

I love the look of industry nine wheels.. very bling

I'm kind curious about the weight limits and how finite they are. usually they are not finite because they under estimate for the sake of caution

we tend to have pretty tech course with smaller drops in them here... for the fastest line anyway

It's not bling if it's functional. There are a lot of color options though.

I don't know about their weight limits, I only have experience with their DH hubs and spokes.

Buddy of mine got the I9 enduro? setup. (Flow rims....)
Broke a spoke after 2-3 rides....mentioned he had to replace a 2nd one this week.

I warned him. (he does tend to bulldoze thru the rox a bit too heavily)

I LOVE my Crossmax's.
You will not regret them. They're ultra light, really strong, and look awesome.

The cons are that you need a special spoke wrench to true them... but on the flip side, I've had them for 3 years and have yet to need to true them. They are notorious for needing "regular" (I've had to do it once) free hub maintenance as well.
