My first post in the MTB forum.

I have started to look at 'supplementing' my road biking with a mountain bike and will also want to take it away to places like the Snowy Mtns (Aussie), along with the road bike, so I can get some extra fitness and generally improve my overall riding ability.

The mtb would be used on fire trails and horse trails - no heavy duty stump busting, cliff jumping, downhilling etc.

Here are a couple of bikes I'm looking at (prices in Aus dollars), and I was hoping that you guys would have some comments on what you think of the bikes and which you would recommend:

With that lineup I would go with the Haro, just for the parts spec on it.

Thanks Danni for your reply. I ended up going for the 2011 Trek 4500 Disc and got a good discount (20%) on it from my LBS (and they also included these pedals and shoes in the deal - Au$150 more). I've purchased everything to do with my road bike from them and also get it serviced there as well, so they look after me (thankfully) - I've also recommended them to other people that mention to me that they are interested in getting into cycling.

I made an error on the Haro - it was the Flightline Three, not the Comp..... The shop only had a copy of the specs for the Comp, but wrote " F-L Three" and the Three price on the paper (my bad).
