I've recently had knee surgery and cannot at this time use cages or clipless pedals due to the risk of damage to my knee if I twist or for some odd reason get stuck and hit ground.

The question is, I've had two different sets of welgo BMX style pedals on both my Kilo and my fetish SSMTB, and both have had bad squeaky/knocking noises coming from the bearings and that drives me nuts. Can anyone reccomend a quality brand of platform/BMX pedals so I can get past the annoying bearing failure.

Edit: both sets of welgos I tried were brand new, so its not because they were old and worn out.

MKS makes good quality affordable pedals like these >>> http://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=19661&category=113 that may work for you and you can add clips if you want at a future date when your health permits.

MKS track pedals. You can usually find them for 25 or cheaper, rebuildable and all metal. I've got the touring pedals on my wife's Bottecchia single speed mixte. A nice classic look for a very affordable price.

I hate it when a peddler comes to my door trying to sell me stuff.

I like pedals Tejano suggested, but they are pretty rough on your shoes/feet during longer rides.

I searched the BMX sub-forum...

I recommend King Grip Pedals... you can ride them even in soft-soled shoes or flip flops!

Got me to ditch clipless pedals for good.

I have good platform pedals on my Schwinn Madison.

Do not get the DA 7400 pedals. They are build for a solid soled shoe with a slotted cleat. Which are not safe for city riding, and if you dont use the slotted cleat the pedal will push a small flat section into your soft soled shoe and create a long thin hotspot, that hurts quite a bit.

Try one of the plastic BMX pedals like Odyssey twisted PCs or my favorite, Haro Small Blocks. They are super cheap and I haven't had any bearing problems. Worst case you are out like $15 max. You can add Hold Fasts to them later if you want.
