My wife currently has trigger shifters on her CF road bike and needs to change to twist grip shifters due to problems with her left hand. FD is Shimano 105 triple, RD is Deore 9-spd. I understand Shimano and SRAM both make models that will work. Would appreciate some model number suggestions.

Also, currently have MTB bars which I will probably keep on her bike, but not being familiar at all with twist grip shifters is it possible to install these shifters on bullhorn bars? Said differently, does the clamp on these shifters open up enough to slide over the curve(s) in the BH bars?

I far as I know SRAM is the only one who makes 9 speed grip shifters. So you will need to buy a SRAM rear derailleur and front derailleur b/c it pulls the cable in a different pull ratio than shimano. The only SRAM grip shifters that are shimano compatible is their MRX series which is only 7 or 8 speed. Shimano makes 7/8 speed Revoshifters which is their version of grip shifters, but I don't think they come in 9 speed.

SRAM grip- or triggershifters with names (as opposed to numbers) work with Shimano RD's.

Don't think you'll be able to take any gripshifters around a curve in a bar.

No. Gripshifters will not fit bullhorn bars. Bullhorns are usually road diameter: 23.8mm where straight/MTB/upright bars are 22.2mm diameter.
