Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - "stunt" fixie type bikes good for jumping? W/ fatter tires/rims maybe...

I guess ill just start by describing the riding i want to do. I have an SST AL and im thoroughly enjoying it but i miss the type of riding i used to do wheni commuted on my DJ. I ditched the DJ for a faster ride which i dont regret, but i now want to build/buy something thats relatively as fast as the SST but capable of jumping stairs, ledges, etc...
I picture something that looks similar to DC pk ripper but maybe with fatter tires and wider/higher bars...
Could road/ss frames hold up to that?
Does anyone have something they do that stuff on? Or could just any bike handle it?
Ps im not talking more than 5-6 steps and 2 ft drops

If you want something that's not going to fail after minimal abuse your going to want something quality, which usually comes with the higher price tag.

also you can have the strongest frame set on the market and use some cheapo wheels which wont help you jump down any stair sets. Your ideal bike that's going to take the abuse will run you a lot when complete, and even more if you go the cheap part-replace when fail method.

Yeah if you go 26" converted to ss you could maybe save some money. building a 29er would add up. All depends on your budget and what you plan on getting out of the bike

think the scrambler might be a decent choice. check the group buy forum because they have a deal on it. Looks like they have supports welded on for the top tube and down tube.

maybe ill just hold off, i wanted to stick with the track style frame opposed to a mtb frame as well as the bmx style fork

Yeah, youre probably right. Realistically i just want something with trackish-like style, good speed, but not have to pick my path so carefully all the time.
5-6 steps was probably an exageration for this desired bike but at least a few and some fun little drop off and bunny hops would be nice, just to make the commutes more fun

OP - Will you be running this bike fixed or free? Bunny hops are kinda hard to do fixed. I've been doing mild stair drops and such on a cromo bike (Moto Messenger) with 32 spoke wheels and Fyxation tires, which are rated as 700 x 28c but are closer to 32mm. I'm running this bike fixed with low 46 x 20 gearing. I weigh under 140 lbs. I use this bike for urban travel for trips under 5 miles and it is not a commute bike, since it lacks fenders, which are prerequisites IMO for a commute bike.

I'd think that any old affordable "4130" steel frame out there should hold up to the use you describe, particularly since you already know how to jump (and land!) smoothly. A handful of stairs once in a while won't hurt many bikes, particularly if the rider knows what he's doing. It's when you're pushing your limits, trying new stuff and doing it harshly that things break, in my experience.

Id definitely be using a freewheel, and i myself am barely over 150 lbs, but everyone wants the most durability possible

if cheap is the theme, there's always the redline urbis. i've heard the components are crap but the frame/rims/tires can take abuse.
