View Full Version : Adjusting Mavic Kysirium hubs???

I recently purchased a used 2003 Litespeed Classic bike. It came equipped with Ksyrium SL wheels. It may be my imagination, but it seems like the rear wheel is "dragging" a bit.

For example, when I put the bike up on the stand and crank up the rear wheel and then I stop, it does not seem to spin for as long as it "used" to. By compariosn, my 1989 Bottecchia, also with Mavic sealed hubs (the old 550 series) seems to keep on spinning for a lot longer after I stop turning the crank.

Maybe it is all in my imagination. Assuming it is not, however, is there a way to "loosen" the hubs (or the hubs lock nuts) in order to allow the wheel to spin a little easier? BTW, the read casette is an Ultegra casette.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Many thanks. :thumb:

Is it possible that the quick release is too tight? If they are sealed bearings there should be no bolts to adjust. A picture?

Cracker7213, good suggestion. I went back to the garage and I "loosened" up the qr skewers. These skewers are different from the Campy skewers that I am used to. I am still feeling my way around maing adjustments on this bike.

I loosened them up a bit and the wheel seems to be turning better/easier.

Thanks! :thumb:

perhaps you need to replace or lube the freehub bushing inside the freebub. It is made of plastic and they do wear out....GOOGLE mavic freehub video

The SL hubs have a dust seal that drags quite a bit. When I was using my SL's I would take the rear wheel to the LBS every spring to have them lube the free hub and the dust seal to minimize the drag.

I'm fairly certain Lennard Zinn addressed this, but a quick search didn't find it.

Thank you for all the useful tips and suggestions. This forum rocks. :thumb:

In my search I came across the site for Mavic's technical wheel manuals. I think it is supposed to be used by dealers repairing or overhauling Mavic products.

Here is the link:

And here is what you need to log in:

I found a ton of useful informationt there. Enjoy. :D
