Im aiming to do 80 miles by December, a century by March.
You do not need a carbon road bike to do a century.
ride = thing you do on a bike
ride != a bike

If you guys are curious, most basic computers have a long-term odometer that keeps a running total (not just distance from the last reset).

Guys, a century on a fixed gear is serious business. Many have done it, but it's obviously not as easy as with a geared bike with a freewheel. I have a buddy that's a BIG FG advocate. Probably one of the biggest proponents around. Thinks FGs are somehow gonna save the world. Very strong rider. He did a century fixed...and said he would never EVER try that again.

lies. you definitely need a carbon road bike to do anything other than trackstand an skid in front of chicks at the university/shopping plaza/jimmyjohns

all depends on the gear and the terrain and the time taken and the rider and the number of stops... did your buddy try to go over a mountain range or average 22mph?
