Alright - follow up from my previous post ages ago which i cant/cant be bothered to find, its dropped off the 1st page now. So i gots my ebay'd avid mechs in the mail and set it up like they tell me (delayed over a bloddy week since i didnt have all the cabling on hand and had to acquire them slowly) and voila! my bike's tricked out with avids, probably an overkill instalment for now, but what the hey. Anyway, it works perfect, no squeal no real break-in necessary the damn things almost sent me flying over the handlebar when i tested them - would've been roadkill.

I owe thanks to the forum - thanks heaps guys.

They are decent out of the box, but wait until they get broken in. I liked mine at first, but after awhile I couldn't imagine not having a set on one of my bikes.

So true, they are really great brakes. Glad you're happy with them but as JBehrmann said, it only gets better :)

Yep, I realize discs are ultimate now. I had my shimano m475s at first thinking they weren't the best seeing as how I could barely pull an endo with them. Then 1 rainy day I took it out for a test. Went down a rather rocky downhill section near my place. I saw glass and manuvered around them. I was reaching pavement and speed bumps now. Then I saw to my horror a perpendicular to my path, the end, a park path which had a ton of people and dogs walking on it. More than expected I pull to left and don't remember I have discs. Jamming my rear (which normally doesn't involve the most powerful and responsive locking when in rain when I had v's) I powerslide a 90+ angle and quickly regain my balance.

What a rush.

Discs will do you good as long as your not like me and don't use em responsibly. Never lock your wheels in wet weather, I got lucky and didn't fall off my bike.
