Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - MKS GR-9 no good for big foot?

I read that these pedals are not ideal for those who have big feet. Can anyone with a size 12+ confirm this? Im a 13, and was going to buy a pair until I read this. I don't see how they would be any different than your standard track pedal. Im going to be using the large clips anyways.

I liked them a lot at first but then realized that my size 12s hung over the sides a bit too much and they became annoying. I usually use large clips and it placed the pedals too further back on my feet than I prefer.

Yeah, I ended up going back to my Sylvans. When I wear worn out shoes, the hot spots created by the plates gets a little bothersome but they fit my feet a little better.

Im a size 11 in most brands and the GR-9's were to small for me. it was hard to get my foot in and they offered little support around the bottom of the shoe.

Setup was GR-9's, MKS large clips, Mt. Christoph leather straps.

I don't have a really big foot (only size 10) but my foot is pretty wide. I find my GR9's with MKS Large Clips really comfortable.

i have a 15 and use gr9's no problems as long as you have the right sized clips. a word of caution, i just had the flip up tab on one of the pedal break off. been using these pedals for about a year

I wear a sz 11, use the large MKS clips and Toshi doubles.
I like them and find them comfortable on longish rides (25 miles is long for me).
I've seen alot of broken tabs on GR-9's, mine have not broken yet though after a year of use, but I do find the tab to be on the large side. I was used to the little triangular tabs and almost sort of prefer those.
This thread just goes to prove everyone's feet are different. Try these pedals if you can before making the purchase.

haha very confusing that these guys with smaller feet dont like them but dude with a 15 says they are ok.

Im think I'm going to go with the allcity cecil pro if I get a regular track pedal. Scrod, this build is getting some nice parts but I don't think i can afford those!

Edit: I really liked them for the large "kick plate" especailly in black but wouldnt want that thing breaking off. Can someone explain exactly how they have broken the piece off? Im having trouble picturing it breaking by flipping one over using your foot.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but since we're talking about GR-9s I was wondering do you guys center the toe clips or do you have them so that they're all the way on one side of the pedal? Is there a right way or is just preference?

I always position my clips toward the outsides of the pedals, that way the clip is centered on my foot.

gt - I was being somewhat snarky about those Custom Neuvos. All-City Cecils are a decent choice. Replaceable cages and sealed bearings are always a good thing.
Regarding GR-9 kickplates - I don't see how someone could break them off under normal use.

I have a size 13 foot and the GR9s are pretty comfortable for me. I have the MKS large toe clips with double straps. It only feels a little weird if I'm wearing a boot or a bulkier shoe. Most of the time i wear some low profile vans and it works out great.

About the broken tabs, most people i've spoken to say they somehow smashed the pedal on something and bent it, leading to it eventually falling off. When I was looking for pedals I came across a good GR-9 thread here someone posted pics of their GR-9, same deal, tab was busted off...
I can't find the thread, is it just me or did the search function on this board get worse?

I'm a size 12 and have been using GR-9s for three years with Soma clips. I prefer the GR-9 over my Sylvan Track pedals with the same clips. This is the first I've heard of broken tabs.

It's really not that hard to flip the pedal up without the tab. I ride in Sanuk's so I'm able to bend my shoe to hook the pedal. I've just gotten used to it, I might JB Weld another tab on in the future

How about the MKS AR-2? Anyone have ay experience or input on those?

I like platform pedals.

Clipless are too small to support my feet.

Go bigger and you'll be happier.
