Did a 25 mile ride today that I thought was going to be moderately tough but little did I know. I had not been down most of these roads, so I did not know the terrain. I just googled a route and went for it. It was much hillier then I thought it would be. Garmin says it was 25.34 miles, time was 2:18, with 1147ft elevation gain. I road my mountain bike and averaged 11mph. Did I mention 18mph headwind?
I have not been biking that long, but we did a 55 miler a couple weeks ago on a relatively flat rail trail. That was much easier. The thing that bothered me the most, however, was the traffic. All the roads except one had no bike lane and for the most part no shoulder to speak of. It was a bit unnerving at times trying to stay on the edge of the road with cars doing what they do on country roads. I am contemplating a road bike for longer distances, does one get use to the traffic? Oh and dogs!
