Did it last year. Very pleased. Only took me 5 1/2 hours on a borrowed MTB. This year shooting for about 45 minutes quicker (I'm actually training for it). Have my own cross bike now. BTW any ideas about tough clicher tires that won't pinch flat on rocks (700c) but are still kinda fast for fire roads?

Yeah. Superchivo and I did the "C" race and finished sixth and eighth, respectively. I think it was the Wonder Bread jersey that gave him the edge. On the first lap I overshot the path after the big drop and ended up having to run my bike up the hill to the compost area. That pretty much toasted me until about lap 3.

Didn't you get third or fourth in the B race? Nice result.

I placed 5th. Yea that big drop was sketchy at best. I almost lost it trying to stay to the right where it was a little bit more dry. Fun course though...

Schwalbe Landcruisers 700/35 (come up about 38) - put 75 psi in.

Landcruisers - love the name. I think I'm going risk my tubulars though, after talking to somebody who belongs to the club that is organizing it. I won't bomb the descents too hard; I think they'll survive.

So did anyone do this race? curious as to how it was...

My full term pregnant wife had to take precedence. I hope to be back next year.

I drove 13 hours to do the race. It was the toughest race that I ever did. Not really a cross race but more of an adventure race. Just check out this run-up (not much running on this hill)

I was planning on finishing the race in about 5-1/2 hours but due to severe leg cramps and a much more difficult course this year, I struggled but eventually finished in 7:26. I have never done so much climbing before in my life, 6500' + of elevation gain. The first run-up had 500' elevation gain in just 3/4 of a mile. The course did have a lot nice singletrack, the paved sections seemed to only go into the wind (20 mph), 5 miles of none stop climbing on the road - which led to a screaming fireroad descent. The last 12 miles were probably the best, mostly singletrack another long run-up, then all downhill to the finish.

It was definitely more than I bargined for, but will probably go next year.

Congrats on toughing it out. That sounds epic. I would love to do it next year.
