Fusion and discectomy L4-L5 October 12, 2010. PT asked me if I would like to ride my bike this weekend. Well, to me Friday is a part of the weekend. Just a mile today, and she wants me only on the mtn bike. OK, I can buy that. Beautiful day, felt GREAT!!:thumb:

The PT obviously doesn't understand cyclist. She should have told you to sit on the bike this week to see how it feels. It is obvious that once you have sat on it and it doesn't hurt- you will take a short ride- and then later on or tomorrow do it again.

But to tell you that you could ride a bike this weekend was probably foolhardy- Even if she put the limit on of 1 mile. Have heard there is a Metric in Colorado shortly so don't enter it.

Glad everything is going fine- but no bunny hopping for a while.

Sounds great Denver, take it easy and enjoy the last of the fall riding!

Really good to hear your mobile on two wheels again. You didn't say how you felt. Did the back do OK?

Doing great, thank you. Here is a picture. I went out for another couple of miles - with the wife - later today. Weather is about 80 - itching for a 30 miler!!

Also, down to 198lbs this am - lowest since 1998.

Well, of course.

But, the wife has different ideas - such as "HEY, DUMMIE - STAY ON FLAT ROADS!"

She rules, because as soon as I do something more aggressive, and I get a "pain" or something, I will never hear the last of it.

I understand that!! I had shoulder surgery in 2005 (right shoulder) and 2007/8 (left shoulder) and every time I have to lift or move something heavy she says, "Don't hurt your shoulder!!" She doesn't understand that both shoulders are in better shape now than they were 10 years ago.

Yes, and, realistically, my spine bones won't be fused for another month or two. The surgeon states that the hardware he put in will hold it appropriately up to a bad suto accident or something similar. He has cleared me for bike riding. But, no need to take chances. I still shouldn't bend very far, etc.

Have fun.

Was about to say the same- All that fitness by exercise you got in before the op seems to have paid off.

Well done---on the riding again and the weight loss.

Edit
Its not DnvrFox I have pegged- it's most members of this forum.

Looks like you are making good progress. No need to warn you about doing too much too soon, nor about not pushing hard enough. You have a very good sense of what is right and proper.

Super!

Well, it really is all the diarrhea and lack of appetite due to certain pills AFTER the surgery.

I have heard that bike riding south of 470 has been limited to 5 miles or less for t6he next 30 days by order of the Governor. Also heard that riders that live south of 470 cannot take their bikes north just to ride farther. Don't break the law pal. :)

22 days post fusion

Due to time constraints, etc., only got to ride 5 miles yesterday, but did walk a couple of miles, got in good resistance exercises, and swam.

Today - Swimming, physical therapy, 10 mile bike ride.

4 weeks post fusion yesterday.

I was cleared today by the PT for a bunch more resistance exercises - pushups, planks, bridges, lat pull downs, overhead pull down, etc. They have to be done in a specific way, which is fine. I have been told that I am doing exceptionally well - due to my being in excellent physical condition prior to the surgery, and my following through on the PT.

I walked 3 miles to and from PT today, along with 45 minutes of swimming. (Too much ice and snow on the MUP to ride the bike. I am taking no chances of falling at this point.)
