Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - Radbot 1000 New Flashing Mode

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The Radbot 1000 has 3 modes of operation, steady blinking and a third mode.
On older units the third mode was a long flash followed by three short flashes, pretty much as below.
___ _ _ _ ___ _ _ _
This mode has been replaced by what PDW is calling their "Cornea Blitz" mode and what I want to call their spastic mode. It is a fast flash mode which varies the output for the different flash pulses in no discernable pattern that I can recognize.
I personally prefer the older mode. I have two Radbot 1000 units with the older pattern and a new one which arrived with the new pattern. I had to go on line at PDW and watch the video of the current model to make sure that my new one was not defective.
I just contacted PDW to see if there was any way to get a Radbot 1000 with the old mode. Maybe they still have some laying around?

Before watching the video I emailed PDW to ask if my new one was broken but it was after working hours on Friday so I expect an answer on Monday at the earliest. Personally I do not care for the "Cornea Blitz" or Spastic mode.

In the last two weeks I received a RB1k from Amazon. I would describe the three modes as:
1. Steady on
2. Strobe (fast flash, edit: verified it is the ..._..._ pattern)
3. Pulse (slower ramping on/off)
I didn't notice any pattern to either strobe (edit: yes see above) or pulse. I did find that while the strobe is more attention getting, it is so fast that it diminishes the appearance of brightness and that the pulse has an off period that is longer than I would like. I would have preferred something in between strobe and pulse.

I got an email from PDW today confirming the operating mode change from the ___ _ _ _ blink mode to the "Cornea Blitz" mode. They claim the change was due to some prospective purchasers claiming that the original one long and three short blink mode was "unsafe" which I consider to be BS.
The email stated that they are looking on possibly going to a 4 mode version with both old and new modes if possible.

It's a problem with ALL these factories copying the other.
The strobe does nothing other than annoy people and is so fast (usually 2 flashes a second) that it fills the field and does not do what cyclists need.
It's more for Police to Blind a Perp.
The dashes and dots are a SOS that usually is done incorrectly.
My belief is we need ALL the dots in timing and without the dashes or spacing between cycling.

Agreed for night/dark use, but for daytime use the flash is not overly annoying

The ..._..._ pattern of the strobe is not very noticeable. I didn't even realize it had that pattern until I read this thread and checked. Looks more like strobe with a bit brighter pulse on the one.
