A year ago I took an unforced error, a fall off my folder while U turning on a slippy road, probably inadvertently re-clipped while giving a bit more pedal pressure to complete the turn. Broken femur (spiral fracture), which re- broke along with 2 new breaks a couple of weeks later as the rods and pins created some referred pressure lower down the leg.
Heigh, whatever!
Today, one year on, I went out on my own ( my usual weekend rides are 'social') and tried to press on a bit. Did a 90 kms in 3 hours, not overwhelming but maybe a 7 or 8 out of 10 effort rather than my usual 5 or 6. And much as I enjoy the social rides, I was really in the zone and loving it. Calm morning, beautiful sunrise, slight adjustment to my riding position which I should have done years ago. It all felt really good, and I was glad to be able to feel back on form, best ride of the year by far.
Then, I accompanied the spouse to her Yoga class. Never done that before. Wow. This is something I must do more of. There's something about trying to get even halfway into a stretch or a bend that everyone else can just naturally fall into, that makes it quite apparent that repetitive exercise which is all I've ever done, mainly running and cycling, doesn't quite make it.
Oh Yeah. Hurts so good. I think the little elves are going to be all over me with their little hammers tonight, and I'm going to feel it in the morning.
So, rode my age, rode faster and further than I have for a year or more, and found a new activity that I think I'll do a lot.
I hope you had a good day too.
