Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - So, how is everyone storing their bikes?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I just bought some of those cheap hooks to hang my bike from the ceiling, so I wouldn't have to keep it propped against the wall in my hallway. I'm curious, what do you guys do with yours? Anything fancy? post some pics!

just a standard hook in the ceiling. back wheel on hook, front wheel against the wall.
Having 7 room mates in a 1050 square foot apartment, with 5 bikes means getting as much stuff up off the floor as possible.

I use two hooks in the ceiling of my basement, one for each wheel. Keeps it out of the way and allows me to work underneath.

I definitely understand that...my roommates and I ran into that issue with bikes lining the both sides of the hallway, so we all bought some hooks. Our place looks soooo much cleaner now.

Usually just flip it upside down and put it next to my front door. No one uses the living room, so even though I'm blocking the entrance it doesn't matter.

Had a friend build this for a lot less than the $300 retail price, also not my bike pictured

i TOTALLY posted this a while ago and had the same idea. Have a buddy who does great wood work, and wanted a classy bike wall mount.

Love it!

Mine and my wife's bikes take up the entirety of what is supposed to be our office and my f/g leans on the wall in the living room next to the TV.

We've got a spare room at home that has been dubbed "the bike room". Plus, the Bikeage warehouse room is at our disposal for storage and building/working on bikes - even though I still tend to keep way too many parts and tools at home.

Too cool, man! You could even bolt a clock onto the top of it, or something.

Also, I'm a fan of that tire clearance.

Ooo, TT's entire garage. What bike is the one on the bike stand?

It's an early 1970's French Mercier 100 that I paid $65 for and converted to a single speed. It had been sitting in a barn in Michigan for several decades, and was in pretty awful condition when I got it, lots of rust, bent cranks, broken mechs, dented rims etc. The only parts I had to buy were the seatpost, brake cables and bartape, although later on I found some NOS French threaded Lyotard touring pedals, since the originals were in really bad shape. The tubular wheels came off another 1970's French bike, a Gitane Interclub, that I've since converted into a 'cross bike.

Oh, and that photo of my garage was taken nearly a year ago, and since then I've added 3 more bikes to my stable. I've completely rearranged things to add hangers for 5 more bikes, and things are much tidier now. :) I'll post a photo when the weather improves and I have enough ambient light. Right now it's cold, dark and raining. :(

Oo, a real Mercier. I bet the Kilo is jealous.

Here's some pics I took with inside light, not the greatest but you get the idea. The last 2 pics shows the mess I had before with bikes leaning up against each other, getting scratched up and periodically falling over. The solution was to remove a cardboard box in the middle of the floor, move the Honda CRF150F over to the corner against a folding motorcycle trailer (neither of which I've used in years), screw a 2 x 4 into the ceiling with 5 plastic coated bike hooks spaced 13" to 14" apart, which permits hanging 5 bikes staggered front and back, such that the bars can overlap. I've now got 14 bikes hung by their rear wheels, 9 against the back wall of the garage plus the additional 5 in the middle of the floor. Spare wheels are also stored on hooks along the back wall. My Cannondale Jekyl full suspension MTB sits on the floor leaning against the Honda and the Schwinn Speedster on its built in kickstand. The Schwinn Paramount P14 track bike sits on the rollers in my foyer. So, finally, all 17 bikes are accessible w/o interfering with the other garage areas such as the work bench and workstand or the other motorcycles.

It's basically a bike shop! Complete bikes over here, extra parts over there, mechanics bench over here.

Clearly, the shop needs a name . . .

We are brothers with different mothers and are working hard at skewing this demographic... my shop is the messy one as it actually a shop.

My other shop is often worse.

You got it. Good old Cowtown. Moved here 20+ years ago when work dried up in the midwest. Haven't been down Waco way for awhile, used to ride mtb at Cameron Park. What SS did you buy and how are you using it? Campus, commute, transport, exercise? Do you have other bikes? What are you studying at Baylor? Do you wear skinny jeans? haha, just kidding on the last question.
