Hey everyone, a little while back I made a thread because I needed help with buying a bike. I was able to get a bit more money and found a pretty decent bike, the Trek 820. Do you think it's a safe purchase ?

I know it's a whole lot better than buying a piece of scrap from Canadian Tire, since Trek is a reliable name brand.

For additional info, I'm 16 years old, weigh about 145, and am 5'9.

Thanks again for helping me from making a bad purchase last time.

That trek is still low end....low low, parts arent too great.....what the heck are u going to be using it for anyway....we need to know that. If your just gunna be riding trails and easy crap, then get the bike....its not a really huge decision like buying a 3,000+$ bike is.

This is the bike my little sister has, its great for what she uses it for. Riding around town with friends, riding to school, and the odd single track every once in awhile. The only downside i see with this bike, is weight. Hers is well over 30lbs, i have no idea how she keeps up with me on my bike! :)

Its a great frame, and should last a few years, just upgrade as things break.

Yeah, I'm pretty much using it to ride long distances in the park, a few dirt trails, some up hill streets, but mostly just to get around here and there, maybe from my house to a friends house.

Have you visited a few bike shops in Toronto? Many bike shops have sales in the spring. Maybe you'll find a good deal on a better model or different brand if you look around. Maybe a 2001 model.
Have you considered a good quality used bike?
