Not sure if this is the right place but....
Does anyone know the approximate price/value a 1993 Cannondale Track? Specifically one that's 52cm, cannondale track metallic blue, and in near perfect condition (never seen the street)? With king headset and phil BB & sugino grand mighty.
Let's just say the bad economy is helping me score one from a friend in need. His a good friend, so I want to keep it that way and pay him something in the ballpark of its worth. :D

Haha! Right after I took that pic, Syd started smacking Angie in the elbow every time she tried to take a bike like he was trying to knock it out of her hands. So good.

Once I get it; but I know for sure he treats his bikes well and I have seen it once before. Anyways when I get it, it'll be at my house all the way in the bay area, while I'm trapped here in grad school all the way in san diego...
Anyways I'm thinking somewhere in the ball park of $1k?

I just picked up a blue cannondale track as well... but I got a steal for mine...
I've seen framesets in good - near perfect condition go for almost 1000$... f/f/hs only.. I'd say that things worth around 1,100$-1,200$~
You won't regret the purchase... here's a pic of mine...

The conversation starts with, "What amount are you comfortable selling it to me for?"
If the answer is more than you can afford, then you say, "Well, I can't really afford to spend that much. How about $_____?"
That's pretty much all you have to do. Basically your post is about something between you and your friend. If that friend is comfortable making you happy for $50, then so be it. If you are happy paying $500 to help out your friend, then so be it. When you look at it like that it doesn't matter what we think.
So, invite your friend to coffee and have a chat about it. You will probably be pleasantly surprised.

No. That's not normal. That's actually stupidly expensive.
It's a nice bike, but not THAT nice. H*ll, you can get a standard sized (S/M/L/XL) Tiemeyer for $1,335 and pick the color you want. $1585 for CUSTOM geometry. That includes a $600 MSRP Edge fork and a $100 King headset. Anybody paying over $1,000 for a used 20 year old frame and fork is nuts.

They are paying for the name and the "status".
I'd much rather have the Moto Team Track if I had a budget like that. Then again, I am kind of cheap.
<3 Vix.
You're probably like me and would sell the frame and put the parts on one of them sexy leader aero tubed frames with no logos.

I'd like to, The whole durace thing gives me tight underwear but I think i'd enjoy putting it together piece by piece a lot more.

I'd keep it as what it is if I were to buy that bike complete, of course, saddle, pedals, stem etc etc are going to be changed to my personal taste.
I do agree that cranks are really nice and it is definitely one of the deciding factors. I like the carbon forks, too.

As stupid as it is... that's how much they go for... check some ebay completed listings... I've been trying to buy one and over the past few months I've seen a few go for near or around that price man, believe it or not. I don't think the frames should cost that much, but people are willing to pay it, so that's how much they're worth.
"They are paying for the name and the "status"."
And that too.

What JDM said, they are worth what the market will bear, and oh how it beareth.
Just because they might not be worth it to X-poster means essentially nothing because knukkas on Ebay pay through the nose.
Also, u mention that this is a friend, and I understand that you really want the frame, but if he is in really bad shape financially a true friend might recommend that he put it on Ebay as we all know that will fetch the highest price. However, I'm sure you can work out an agreeable sum, I personally wouldn't have a problem paying close to a grand for what u described.

On that note, he wants the possibility of buying it back sometime in the future. His the 1st owner and whatnot....
i cringe to think of the number of cannondale tracks that were fgfs'd door'd and otherwise destroyed to death in the last three years... methinks it could very well account for a 350 price increase.
knockback some beers plus deal to buyback at full return rate to me would be total greenlight on heftily discounted friend rate.
i mean... as long as it isn't damaged in the meantime and he can kick you back the 500 or so you'd pay him for it, you're doing him a solid by holding his bike for him... plus you get to ride a sweet bike in the meantime. win/win. and if not, he gets money and the peace of mind that his beloved possession is giving someone close to him joy. win/happy.
just don't offer him sixty bucks and a handjob for it. be reasonable.
also, regretting not checking this thread earlier for hilarious cheezburgrs.

WAT
1k for a frameset? wtf.
I'd say ~$700 for craigslist pricing, $500 for high bro price.
I'd consider it for ~450 if it was in that much sexier green, but as said it is 20 year old aluminum and in the end it's not particularly special.
20 year old aluminum frame... I dont feel like being flamed for the price I think its worth so I wont even say right now.

I like my C-dale track frame so much I'm always on the lookout for a deal on another one (Send me a PM JDMFanatic if it turns out you don't like yours and want to make a profit off it). I got mine, which has definitely seen some street use, as a Buy It Now on ebay for $350 (I swooped down on that thing like lightning). Don't get one if toe overlap bothers you or you like a more upright riding position. I think an average price for that frame in the general bike market would be about $700 dollars and with those high end components your closing in on the $900-$1000 range. Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear.
IMO, Cannondale's biggest marketing mistake right now is not reissuing these frames.

OG cannondale tracks are sweet. Even if you paid 1k for the bike, you would not only get a sweet bike but also a very sought after vintage track bike. I couldn't afford 1k right now, but it will definately be a nice bike to ride.

My question now, knowing all the scams and no paying people on ebay, how many of those bikes were actually paid for at those prices. We will see if the bikes end up back on auction.
