Fifty Plus (50+) - As much as I hate to admit it, I think I have to.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
At 54, I still have all of my hair, and it is still the same color since my youth. Maybe one or two greys. I don't mean to brag, that's the way it is. I have often been asked/accused of dyeing it, I don't. My friends will curse at me because of it. But I think it's tiime to face my face. I'm growing my winter 'stash, and it appears to be comming in several shades lighter than in the past. Maybe it's time for it to happen. S'long youthful looks and boyish charm, it's been fun while it lasted. crap.
BTW to keep things on topic, I grow it to keep my lip warm on winter rides.

Look at the silver lining (pun intended). Pretty soon, you'll have a grey beard and be qualified to ride a recumbent.

Trying to find some way to sympathize but failing. I was maybe 20 when I first noticed my hairline receding. Maybe if it had been more recently I could recall what it was like. I do remember eventually realizing that there are bigger things to worry about. Hang in there.

Are you kidding?!!? White facial hair on a (male) 50+ cyclist?!?! You've just earned your wings, my good man! Wear it proudly!

At age 54 I had no gray, nor did I need glasses to pilot the plane or see the dashboard in the car.
Sadly....things change.

I earned my gray hair. I would never try to hide them. I can be truly thankful that I am not bald because I probably don't have a nicely shaped head. Some men look great bald.

Preventing baldness is simple.
All that you have to do is to remove the organs that produce the male hormones. Every time that I see a 50+ male with a full head of hair, I wonder.

Just turned 60, and although there is an increasing number of grey hairs, it's still predominantly black. Yeah, mostly genetics, but I can't help but think that cycling has had a lot to do with it. Maybe the increased blood flow to my head all my life? I just accept it with wonder, but my story is that cycling keeps you young, and I'm sticking to it. It really is a fountain of youth; it won't make you look any younger, but it really does slow down aging, so the earlier you start, the better.
And yes, I have noticed that the guys I've raced against that have been way stronger have always had less hair. I can live with that.

Here I am in Sarasota, FL last month, looking disreputable and seedy... but with a full head of dark hair!

Looks like the OP gets paid for being on BF.
I think maybe you need new friends. I mean come on, they curse you for the way you look?

With my haircut last weekend, I notice that the barber was mixing someone else's gray hairs in with my own brown hair. I haven't figured out why she would do that. ;)

I had my annual physical a few weeks ago. Lucky me, my PCP is also a cyclist, and keeps his bike in the office. So, at about six feet, and 158 pounds, I am slightly underweight. I told him I ride a fixed gear, and he said, "well, that explains that". His advice was to make sure I eat enough. But.... People keep asking me what my secret is, because I "look so youthful". Uh,, I don't have one. There is no blasted secret. Jeesh!
I've got a good showing of Grey now, but I like it just fine. People tend to leave me alone. On rare occasions when I go into the dreaded Best Buy (No really, I hate going in there!) the blue shirts leave me the heck alone. Cops in their 20's call me "sir". Hee-Hee-Hee. Leob1, I don't think you have any problems at all.
I have never set foot in that place, what's it called,,, Abercrombie and Fitch?? Tell me, have I missed anything?
58 here and have gray/white beard, but my hair color has not changed
wear it proudly.....................

Although very comfortable being mostly bald, I'd trade for hair of almost any color. I enjoy my grey beard. I pretend I look distinguished.

I'm convinced that riding my bike is both saving and extending my life. I don't look a day older than 70. And I'm only 63. Oh, well... Okay, I recently met my girlfriend's mom. She was shocked. She asked her daughter what she was doing with such a young guy. And my girlfriend is only 8 months older than I!!!
On the other hand, have any of you guys realized how much exposure we're all getting to the sun? I'm very light complected and I know that I'm always toasted from being out on a several-hour long bike ride. That can't be good on our skin. Even if we someday have facelifts, what can the doctors do about the leathery skin resulting from so many days out riding our bikes in the bright sun?

I saw Peter Frampton on Oprah today. He is sixty years old, balding, white hair and beard. Guys, FWIW coming from one of your peers, I find him more appealing-looking now than I did when we were both young and had long, shiny blonde locks.

I've had a chrome dome for well over 20 years. I'll be 57 one week from today. My younger brother is 54, and still has a full head of hair with no grey showing. Go figure.
My son is 27, and well on his way to a shiny top.

My hair has turned color twice, one from black to gray, then from gray to transparent.
Or looked at alternatively, I have less gray hair than I used to.

As Archie Bunker said, "The loss in hair is more than made up for by the gain in face."
I've been slowly gaining face for years. I'm not so sure Archie was right.

My brother-in-law has shaved his head completely for years. Anyone else? I haven't, but might as well. What I have left I cut very short - about 1/8 - 1/4 inch.

Yup. In the summer, I shave it all right down to the wood. In winter, I let it grow a little, but still keep it really short.
I do like the low maintenance.

I don't shave, but I keep it very short. In the summer I go with a #1 or no guard, in the winter I may go with a #2 or #3.
When I had a full head of hair, I grew it very long and kept it looking good, but now that I am mostly bald, I go for as little maintenance as possible. If it needs combing it needs cutting.

I had my hair cut on Tuesday. She commented on how much she had to cut. That's something that i don't hear very often so she might have been being less than totally honest but it boosted her tip.
Lots of hair on top and it is still more brown than grey, but not by much.
Last time I grew a beard, at least ten years ago, it was disturbingly grey.
My 'stache was largely grey, too, until I butchered it with a trimmer and had to shave it off.
The wife said to just leave it off and I've been youthfully  free of grey hair on my face ever since.

Stinking HAIRY Braggerts! What little hair I do have is salt and pepper, heavy on the salt. The only dark hair I grow is on my back, top of my ears and out of my nose.
But look at the positive, I am just naturally (now) that much more aerodynamic than you hairy dudes.

how true... but I keep a full beard as well-- and keep it very trim and short-- the hair I can let grow for about 2 months before it needs combing--I mean cutting :)

Leob1 has a choice. Cold upper lip or look old. I suppose choice 3 is 'Just for Men.'
At 55 I've got gray around the temples and the top is getting a bit thin, but I've still got most of my hairline. OK, SOME of my hairline.

I figure God has a sense of humor. It HAS to be a practical joke, that as we age we lose hair off the tops of our heads, and instead, we sprout hair out our ears and noses! What good does that do?
I saw Peter Frampton on Oprah today. He is sixty years old, balding, white hair and beard. Guys, FWIW coming from one of your peers, I find him more appealing-looking now than I did when we were both young and had long, shiny blonde locks.

Nothing repairs sun damage to skin. Compare your skin that gets sun to your skin that never or rartely gets exposed.
Slather on sun screen every three hours, maybe less.
Surgery can lift saggy skin.

Several years ago I was doing a murder trial and there was a picture of me in the paper taken from the back and a bit above. It showed what seemed to be a rather substantial bald spot. The judge said it looked I was wearing a yarmulke. I didn't think that was funny.
