Hi, I picked up a beautiful Cinelli SC, I believe. The serial number is 102, it's a 60cm c2t. Don't know much about the frame, there's no tube sticker. Year and evaluation! All the paint and decals are original, could be before the 60's. Here some pics

The Cinelli has been hanging in a storage locker for over 30 years.

Thank you in advance, Mike

Looks very nice. Mid 60's or earlier. I am not sure about the original paint, I have never seen one without chrome at least in the seat lug. Mine doesn't, but then it's a repaint. Perhaps some close-ups of the headset could help in dating it (if original).

It's probably just the angle the third picture was taken. The down tube looks like it an angles toward the right in comparison to the chainstays and the BB.

I found a picture of Cino with his Cinelli. It appears that the lugs are painted, like the one I have.

What do people think, true or false?

Thank,

I think its a repaint as the metallic appears too "sparklie". Cinelli Silver was really fine grained, it never appeared very bright even in direct sun, and the placement of the seat tube graphics just appears off to me. The lugs and the oil port on the BB shell point earlier than later, remove the rear derailleur to show if it has a hole for the Campagnolo sport spring. At that time it would be easy to examine the paint at the mount hole, looking for chrome under the paint. I think there is a good chance there will be.

It is going to be worth at least $600. and could bring quite a bit more.

I agree with repechage: the seat tube decals seem too high on the tube. Cino's bike shows them in their usual place, i.e. with the logo centered between the top of the chainring and the top tube, one multicolored ring halfway between the logo and the chainring & the other halfway between the logo and the top tube. The spring hole is visible in the drop-out above the derailleur. Repechage can probably date it from this: I cannot, other than to say it is late 50s-early 60s. Value is tougher, but I suspect the $600+ estimate is good.

Congrats on a beautiful frame! Looks like early 60's to me, same era as my Model B. I concur about the repaint. I considered my paint to be in great shape for 60's, and it has way more patina than that. Also the coloured bands on the seat-tube faded very quickly and yours look brand new. In addition, other's have made comments about the quality of the silver, and they are dead on. I have seen Cinelli silver up close and it is much more "matte" then that. Don't let any of this put you off, however, because these frames were nice enough that they often went through several repaints if they were actually raced and ridden, nothing wrong with that. Have fun building it up! I notice yours has the original 1963 cast bronze Record RD like mine, it's an awesome derailleur and polishes up beautifully.

Thanks gomango. I ended up putting the Nitor saddle back on it to keep it as original as possible. It is not the most comfortable thing in the world, but I think it is slowly breaking me in. ;)
