I have mixed emotions about DST. The older I am the harder it is to adjust--- in either direction. :o Someday I hope to live in a state which does not observe DST, like AZ or IN.

But I decided to take my last ride in DST during 2010 this afternoon. It was supposed to be sunny and in the mid '40s. :notamused: But as it turned out it was overcast and about 37F. I took the '88 Cannondale Touring and stopped for a few pictures along the way. I did about 26 miles between 3:30-5:00. Tomorrow it will be pitch black by 5:00.

Take a moment and tell about your last ride in DST for 2010 and post any pictures you might have taken. :D

Did the normal Saturday morning ride with the club. 40 degrees with light (and later steady) winds, but thankfully completely clear skies here to start. Ended up having to cut the ride short due to a lengthy delay after a crash which took two riders out - one fairly seriously with two broke wrists per the last status update I heard.

Nope, no ride today. Cold and rain in the morning, and just felt like chilling out in the afternoon. Besides, I picked up a dual sus, MTB at an estate sale an that took up my biking time.

I rode my Gitane TdF yesterday after work. I was a still and sunny 75 degrees at the beach, the temptation was just too much to resist. Yesterday was the kind of day we did not have much of this summer.

Today, I had to work.

Wasn't it the old folks union that lobbied for DST?
Like the pictures. I miss that neighborhood. I'll go out tonight after I get the dishes done. I'll get the dishes done when I manage to pull myself away from BF C+V. I have a 3 or 4 mile loop through the neighborhood on the back roads without too many cars. Sometimes I head up through the Mexican neighborhood on a Friday or Saturday night, Everyone's out walking and there's music and the smell of Mexican food coming from every window. Well, at least when it's warm enough to have the windows open.
I usually ride at night when the kids are asleep and rush hour has died away, even in the summer. I'm a big fan of the warm summer nights.

24.5 miles... the long way from Durham to Portsmouth NH, plus some detours to avoid traffic. They closed the bridge that would make it a 10 mile straight line trip through May

22 mi.

I don't ride in the dark during the summer, but my winter bike has active lighting for this reason. Being on the leeward edge of the EST time zone helps a little too.

Ben, I know the farmers never wanted DST. This is the prime reason they don't have it in IN. I'm not certain why AZ doesn't use DST. I had always heard it was for school children not waiting for the bus in the morning in the dark. If you have ever lived in the far western part of a time zone, you know this reason does not hold any water.

I know, I know! So why does AZ not observe DST?

I timed and scored a 5K/10K, and was thankful my hard-core running days are behind me. I'll adjust to DST like I always do, get up an hour early and try to be productive i 30 minutes of it.

My church is savvy; they start an hour early tomorrow.
I teach 4th/5th boys in Sunday School, and we'll probably blow something up or destroy some kind of property an hour earlier than usual.
That's the plan, anyway.

40-something when I took off late this morning. Rode about ten miles of rolling hills, down into river bottom country and then about thirty miles of blissful flats. There was a headwind for much of the way, but I was on my Freschi and my legs were fresh after a week of short rides between end of work and nightfall (urgh!) and the miles passed in quiet serenity. Somewhere along the way the temperature flirted with 60 and my wind jacket disappeared from my shoulders and found its way to my waist. A few more hills at the end of the ride and then i was home and still feeling strong and wanting to be outside, so the wife and I took a ride around town; I switched bikes and got onto my winter-build for another shakedown ride. It's dark now and I'm wishing I'd already installed my new lighting system: I'm only grudgingly conceding that the weather and light are changing.

It was sunny but pretty chilly here in Calgary - I did get on the bike to ride over to the coffee house to meet up with some friends. It is supposed to be nicer tomorrow, so I will try to get out and enjoy it before winter sets in here.

Got out for a test ride on my new frame-set. It was a blast! Probably only put on a couple miles before I called it a day after a little accident that resulted in a bent brake caliper. It was still a good time, though.

You crazy old guys! My place Never even hits 68! It's usually between 73-75. When I'm in my own home I want to relax and work on my bike in just shorts, or even just my boxers, not sit around all cramped up and restrained in a coat!

If nothing else, my girlfriend and my spider would prefer it were 80.

Any time on the bike and not at work is a good time!

I didn't ride today. But we gave a free "bike clinic" out on the street. The sun shone on us, and it became quite warm. Lots of people stopped by, and we did tune-ups. We also did police registrations for bikes. The police gave us the stickers and forms to do them.

The girls in my house are lucky if they experience 64F all winter. It's usually 62F or lower.

What powers your heating system? We use oil. I'll pay $2.83 a gallon this year, and will use about 1000 gallons. Not cheap.

We rode out to the NSC cyclocross race after I got back into town from the cabin.

Beautiful day here in Minnesota.

Almost bought a bike on the spur of the moment.

Would have been a pain to drag it the 18 mile route back to the house, but it would have been worth it.

I rode my neighbor's Chris Kvale touring bike.

Never should have sold that frame, but he gets so much enjoyment from it, I did the right thing.

Just did 13 miles around the area yesterday - most of the day was spent in the shop working on Craigslist bikes. Got the Raleigh Sportif listed, and the women's Raleigh Triumph has just finished soaking the second wheel rim, so I hope to have it listed by next weekend.

Biggest thing I hate about DST: In the garage I have twelve bikes hanging. Every bike has a cyclometer. Every cyclometer has a clock. Plus the two cars, and the fancy Westminster wall clock hanging out there.

A cold weather ride on Saterday here in Chicago. Ice on the ponds, and afternoon temps of 45f. Full finger gloves and wool socks were needed along with tights and multiple layers on top.

Rode 73 miles from home to the northern suburbs of Chicago and back. 4.5 hours of almost continuous riding, with one stop at 45 miles for water and a stop for chili at 50 miles. The cold weather really builds an appetite!

Unfortunately, no. I got in rides every day last week to make up for it knowing the weather was going to change. Instead my younger son had an AAU basketball doubleheader then we headed off to the local D-II college football game. Made it home for a couple of hours and back to the campus with the family for the women's volleyball match last night.

I think today will be a day of rest.

I missed the daylight because I was inside longer than I had anticipated fighting with the fenders I was installing to prepare for the oncoming snow. I did, however, ride home from the bar at 2 in the morning as the time shifted back. It was bicycle time travel.

Nope, I was in Baltimore until earlier today. In a bit, I'll fit a front wheel w/ dynohub and lamp to the Grand Sports for the commute tomorrow. It'll be darkish by 4:30 around here.

Took a 20-mile ride on the country roads here with temperature around 68 and sunny. Apparently the cooler (for Texas) weather also increase dog's appetites for cyclists, as I had to pepper-spray 2 dogs that have not bothered me before.

62 or Lower??? My goodness. Do you guys run in place whenever you're home to keep warm? At that point I'd be selling a bike or two if I needed so I could keep my place at a reasonable temperature.

I actually live in an apartment these days, so the heat is included in rent. When I lived with my mother we still kept it at 70, though. Gas heat there.

62 is our night time temperature in the house. We've got a wood stove so it's a toasty 72-75 inside during the winter. I enjoy sitting in front of the wood stove and cleaning bike parts - until it gets too hot.

Ah, now that I can understand (Pretty much. I still probably wouldn't go down 62. Maybe 64.) I love wood stoves too. I could imagine the relaxation of sitting if front of one cleaning some parts, and you're quite lucky on that one. I'm hoping my next place has a fire place. I'd be fine with a wood stove too, but they're less common so most places don't come with them.

took off at noon from north Oak Cliff and rode straight through downtown Dallas and out the other side, on to White Rock Lake for a lap around and back through town and home again- just shy of 30 miles, and just over 90 minutes round trip-- weather seemed like a mountain town on saturday, minus the altitude. 60 degrees, sunny, crisp, lovely
