On the local CL is a 1979 Raleigh Competition GS tall frame bike for sale by original owner. Is $399 in the ballpark? Here is the link:

Hi David -

I'd say that's a fair price, considering the apparent excellent condition and Campy components.

If you're really in the market for one and are above average in height, you shouldn't dally.

PS Don't buy it to flip though or you won't make a whole lot on it.

Great deal in my book.

At first I thought, Wow that's high for just a frame. Then I opened up the CL ad and realized it's a complete bike. IMHO that's a good price for Competition.

The last Competition I saw pop on Detroit's CL was listed for $150. Similar condition, my size.

Of course I jumped on it - (as did probably 20 subsequent callers) but the bike was relisted hours later for $400.
The seller then called me back, but I told him I wasn't interested. I might have been, had he listed it for $400 in the first place.

The bike languished for a couple months before he (presumably) sold it - but this one won't last long. It's well presented. (I'm surprised it's still there this morning!)

Two years ago I was in the hunt for a Competition. After some hectic last second bidding I won a 1979 on Ebay for $405. It had a small ding in the top tube and the usual scratches, chips. I've really enjoyed it. The CL one looks to be in better condition than mine. Have you requested add'l better quality pics? That is a large frame. I hope you are 6'4" Not too many people are tall enough to ride that Competition.

In fact, I'm 6'1", and probably not the right size for that bike -- although, I bought a Schwinn Traveler with a 25" frame as a flip for a customer 6'5" in height, and I rode it, with some difficulty. Thanks for the advice, everyone, I'll be ready for the next one that comes along.

It must have sold because the listing is gone and it was not relisted. My loss,I really wanted to see this one.
