It's getting cold here and i don't plan to ride anymore. So how do you prepare bike for winter "sleep"? Like how much air in wheels, position of the bike, etc..

You CAN ride in the winter - it's really awesome. I just started last year, and now I'm totally hooked. I really can't wait for the temps to drop, and the snow to fall!

Anywho, the only advice I can give you regarding putting your bike away is to make sure to hang your bike up on a hook. Leaving you tires set on the ground is not good for them.

Buy some fancy winter riding clothes and get out there! Or by some old wool pants and sweaters at the local thrift shop. There's no reason why you can't ride in the winter, at least most days. Now if your putting away your road bike in order to switch to your mountain bike with the carbide steel-studded snow tires, it's a good time to clean it. Give the frame a good once-over and clean/re-grease the drivetrain. If it's a steel frame make sure it's nice and dry and apply some Frame Saver or similar protectant in the frame. It's best to store it up off the floor.

Your bike will be much happier if you let it stay awake. Don't let Winter stop you! Ride the darned thing!

If you don't want to ride the bike, just set it somewhere protected from the weather. You might put some air in the tires now and then, but it;s not really necessary. However, winter is a good time to repack bearings and perform other maintenance that you put off during your riding season.

I agree with the other though, that winter is a great time to ride.

Dude, just ride. My favorite rides EVER have been on the Blue Ridge Parkway during or after a snow fall (they close the road to cars!). Some decent semi-slicks or cross tires, and you are good to go. Full finger gloves are necessary too.

Or, if you're not keen on riding outside, ride indoors. Get a trainer. That's what I do (I'm a weather wuss!) :D
