hi my name's mike and I love single speeds. I've 6 bikes total and they do it all. I've been riding for 4 years now and have never had a better life.

Welcome Mike. I've gone single speed myself - running a 42/16 on the open road. I've got a couple hills 'round my neighborhood. Are all of your bikes SS? what gears you runnin'. DanO

Only three are single speed- a KHS Solo-One, an old Giant Quasar that I converted to a fixed TT bike, and a Bianchi Pista. I'm running a 48/14 on the Giant and 48/16 on the Bianchi. I'm not so sure of the gearing on the KHS- I'll have to check.

Saint Petersburg- the scene here is amazing. We have group rides every day with a typical turnout greater than 20.

ssmaniac - any fixies in that herd of yours?
Saint Petersburg sounds nice. Are the group rides mainly roadies and health nuts, or do you guys have late night rides with crazy bikers that are kind of like a high speed, drunken critical mass? That's kind of how our sat and wed rides are out here. Not organized at all, and everyone (pretty much) brings beer or something stronger. Often ending up at bars far from the starting point, or a fire in some hidden park.
I only ask because I still have some vacation time to use up before the end of the year, and some quality time with my Bianchi in Florida might be a nice vacation from the Minnesota winter. Any good camping spots around there?

Yeah, two of them are fixed. Our group rides are well organized, but were all pretty much health conscious roadies. I'm a little more laid back than others- my roots are in mountain biking. There is some really pleasant camping out @ Fot Desoto. It's on the beach- very nice. I've been pretty busy with the semester starting up, I haven't had much time for anything.
