Does anyone think this is a good idea? I've noticed that there's a few young cyclists out there. I think this would be cool, Mods!
My son is 12, about to be 13, and I would certainly get him involved if there was a forum just for younger folks here. My daughter too, who is 10.

hmmmm, hard decision.
upside: I could talk with other kiddos about stuff(I do that anyway???)
downside: if it was STRICTLY for younger riders(like women's forum is strictly women only) we would lose the experience of the older more knowledgeable riders answering our q's.
In conclusion...... I don't really care. I suppose it would be better if you were kind of shy about posting and having older people reading/responding. I know my little sister is only comfortable around family members or other kids her own age group.

I like the idea. It could get the younger ones more interested, and create a space for them to share with ppl the same age. Nothing prevents the kids from posting in other forums to get help from more experienced riders.
I don't think it should be stricly for kids either though.

Thought we already gone over this. Go to the BMX forum. All the kids you want. Typing all the AOL'ese you want.

That's a pretty arrogant thing to say. I've never seen any of livestrong's posts indicate that he would be in the slightest bit interested in the BMX forum or typing in "AOL'ese". You seem to think that all BMXers are of lower intellect, and that all kids should be BMXers. That's quite a lot of generalization you have going on there in just a few words.

No Age related or Gender based forums: things don't need to be fragmented anymore than they are.
Unfortunatly the curmudgeons got their way on one (I STILL say that was a bad idea).

Hay Livestrong91: Don't give up so soon. I think you have a very great idea. I am 83 years old and so I don't really qualify for your forum. But I have been a strong advocate for the bicycle for the last sixty years and the recent increased popularity of bicycles has been most gratifying to me. You young peaple are so important in the continuation of this popularity. So Livstrong91, why don't you grab the bull by the horns and continue to push for such a forum. My cousin Joe Gardner is quite impressionable and I'm sure he will go along with you.

Due to COPPA laws, if you are in the United States, and under the age of 13, you can not be legally registered on this site. For this reason alone, I doubt we will see a "young cyclists" forum.

I don't see anything there that makes it illegal for a child 13 or younger to register. I see restrictions on the web site operator in how they can gather and use personal information, which would be wise for any site owner to follow anyway. I do.

You're right. But if Joe accidently fails to dot an i or cross a t, he can have the feds breathing down his neck. I can see why it wouldn't be worth the trouble.

the teen forum thing is a bad idea, yes i know i wanted one to when i first registered but then i came to my senses and realized that there is nothing to talk about that cant be put in anyother forum and i would rather get advice from riders who have experience then from kids who dont know anymore then I do.

The COPPA require that any child under 13 years of age must have his/her parent's sign and fax a consent to Joe before they can use this site...
