Im worried that I might go insane if a blizzard hits and burries the road . Today , in the morning , it was cold as hell . I popped off a 20 miler , I thought that was it for the day but it warmed up nicely so I took a hard 25 miler , ripping up all but the last few hills . I m seriously worried about cabin fever . I may have to purchase those things you put the bikes back wheel into and get a workout . Forcast for the next few day , nice and warm :)
peace

Must be a drag to live where you can't cycle all year long.

You may want to consider rollers instead of / in addition to a trainer. Rollers allow you to actually ride, although you obviously don't go anywhere. They require you to pay attention, because you have to maintain balance. It takes a bit of practice to learn to ride on them. In addition to the cardiovascular workout, you gain skill at riding smoothly.

don't have a mtb? They work in snow.

How about skiing? Alpine, xc, tele? Snowshoe? Yeah, I know, i just said biking isn't everything.

Hell, light a fire and get all romantic with your partner.

Ill try my old girlfiend and the rollers . I need the pain , the hills , the suffering ...the good suffering . But Ill miss that rush , u know , when you almost get run off the road , the "go lance" bs.... the sun .....the nice warm rain and wind . To many years in the north east , bad knees , bikings all i got :)

This thread dovetails nicely with the 'roadies are neurotic' thread...

Be careful. Keep that up, and one day you'll wonder why cycling isn't fun anymore. You may also look around and wonder where the many other wonderful things in life went.

Yeah, riding in the northeast in the winter does rot....and probably explains your bad knees. My old mentor used the "60 degrees saves the knees" mantra to remind us not to wear shorts below 60 F.

As suggested, go with the mtb bike down to 40, then rollers and when your sick of that start the weights, sit ups, free weights etc. Before you know it its Spring again....

The thinking was that shorts in temperatures below 60 F would lead to incomplete warm-ups, and you're never really able to avoid stiffness. You just can't maintain enough muscle and joint flexibility. Probably an anecdotal temperature cutoff, but it really seemed to hold true for the average rider in the group. Still does for me.
