Touring - camp 10 speed shifters - what front derailleur to work with triple crankset

I'm putting together a touring bike. I've always ridden Campy on my road bikes, and would like to use Campy Veloce 10 spd shifters. Shimano slx 10spd rear derailleur and a shimano cassette. I found out about the Jtek Shiftmate solution which solves the rear drivetrain issues. I'd like to use shimano slx triple on the front, Any suggestion for front derailleur/solution to make the Veloce work with a triple crankset.

Nice, I didn't know about that option. Can't go all campy since I want to use mtb wheels, which means I've to use shimano, right?

No. You can lace a 26" rim to a Campy hub just as well as you could to a Shimano hub. Unless you're set on buying a factory wheel. In which case you could have all-Campy except for the cassette and hub and use the Jtek (my setup) Getting the adaptor threaded in correctly is a little finicky, and it's probably not as good as going all-in with one manufacturer, but it does work.

any front derailleur will work. campy front shifters aren't really indexed. just a bunch of click stops. i'm running campy shifters with an old shimano xt front derailleur and a sugino xd triple crank and it works great.

Thanks! I started googling, I'm finding out that many people have similar setup to yours.

Actually, one hitch did occur to me. Your touring bike may have a rear triangle spaced 135 mm. Campy only makes 130-mm hubs. I ran across this previous thread discussing workarounds (http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/index.php/t-54749.html).

Yes, you're right, it will have a rear hub spacing of 135mm (http://www.outsideoutfitters.com/p-12921-soma-saga-touring-road-bike-frameset.aspx)

FWIW, I think most people find better results with road front derailleurs with road shifters since at least some of the mountain front derailleurs expect different cable pull amounts than the road shifters produce. There are inexpensive campagnolo derailleurs that will work with triple set ups. Try www.ribble.co.uk for good deals. They might have something.

Then again Snappy is right that campy front shifters have like a million clicks so I bet you can make damn near any derailleur work fine for you.

My set up is campagnolo shifters, campagnolo front derailleur, sram rival compact double crankset, sram cassette and shimano mtb derailleur. with jtek shiftmate it works flawlessly!

I am going similar route. Centaur 10 brifter, jtek shimano rear, campagnolo front triple. The front triple works with all their front shifters. Now trying to decide on a drop bar.

I'm still using Campag's 80's mountain bike parts, their Euclid and Olympus
Front, Rear derailleur and 110 74 crank.

Race bike triples will still be geared rather high even in the lowest Ratios.

If you tour from one indoor lodging to another and can keep the gear inventory Way down,
AKA credit card touring,
maybe the 29/30 will be low enough.

for me the 34/24 comes in awfully handy slogging my camping gear up the hills .

square taper Campag race triple on my road bike It's a 135/74 combination

I shed the 30 immediately and fit a 24t on it. 50/40/24t is a touring combo
adds 3 more ratios below the 40/28 that is middle chainring , largest freewheel cog.

It helps to have a long cage rear derailleur to take up all that slack ..
[the difference between (Big+big) minus (small + small) is chain wrap]

Capacity , the other one, is how big a cog will the rear derailleur clear .
