In reply to an ad I placed for "a used road bike with skinny tires" in a local trade newsletter I got a call offering me a "Binachi" a few hours ago. It was hanging upside down in a shed, which made reading the name problematic for him. The tires (700 X 20) were flat but they are holding air now !! I was tempted to leave it because it is so small - 20-inch frame.
My wife was with me & she hopped on it, which settled the matter.
The bike appears to be in VERY good condition.
I offered $50.00 and he asked for $75.00
I picked it up for $65.00 Canadian.

IIRC correct, you're from T.O? It's a very good deal regardless, but if you're from Hogtown it's a fantastic deal.

BTW, it akmost certainly not a 1986, as I see it has the Colorado Springs decal. This celebrates Moreno Argentin's World Championship road race victory on a Bianchi. This event took place September 6 and that's late enough on the year that 1987 production would be commencing soon thereafter. Beside, Exage Sport and the decals place it 1988-1989. It would be appreciated if you would submit the serial number.

The "Binachi" serial number is: JS764265

It does have the Colorado Springs decal.

I suspect that the "JS" prefix might indicate a Japanese origin, but I have no idea.

I'll check the internet to see what Bianchi serial numbers are based on.

Yes, Japanese manufacture, specifically October 1987, making it a 1988 model. Original price $475 US.

I know Oshawa quite well. My wife was originally from the area and her grandparents lived on Ritson. We get back there 1-2 times per year and should be up there around Christmas, if everything goes per plans. Definatelt a good deal. Last fall I sold the identical bike in a 64cm frame for $225. It had a complete tune up with new tires, tube and tape though. I almost kept it but it was a bit small for me. The blue color is fantastic.

It still has the original Shimano "BioPace" ovoid sprocket system that Sheldon Brown liked & many other riders thought of as a gimmick. Both of my daughters have expressed a violent desire to own it so I may have to give it to my wife or sell it to keep peace in the family. Is the wife's grandfather who lives on Ritson named Alex ??

I am not sure what $65C converts to here, but I would have had a hard time leaving that behind for $75US wether it fit or not. that Bianchi looks unused. I've never seen that color must be a Canuck thing. I did a bit of digging and it looks to me to be a '88 judging from the Exage Sport and the style of decal. great buy!

Right now $65 Canadian is worth about $64.50 US. The Beaver Buck is flirting with parity against the Greenback. This is my third Bianchi (flipped the other two older Bianchis a couple of months ago when I got a couple of larger bikes to replace them) and this one is by far in the nicest condition. I cannot imagine anyone buying this thing and then not riding it but that appears to be the case. Maybe it was just too small.

I, too, have a hard time walking away from a Bianchi that I know I can trade for something that will fit me, but this Sport SX unit is truly tiny. Strangely enough, I have just recently picked up four other tiny bikes, a Fiji Pulsar, Raleigh Lenton & Raleigh Portage, and a Peugeot U08. Good thing I have daughters !!
