Mountain Biking - Help pick new bike.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Thanks

Let me tell ya, THIS is the bike I want... no YOU! That YOU want! You.
Just ignore the nasty, soul-less paint job and the $6300 price tag and the fact that the inventor of Mountain Bikes - Gary Fisher God himself - sold out to The Man just to be able bring this to YOU. And so what if it's 10, 20, 30 times the price of what you're looking at now - You WANT this.
You will never need another bike EVAR! Or in fact, be able to afford one.
But that's not important right now! What's important is that you buy exactly what I tell you. Now. Or hell, you could just get the NEXT Power X like Johnny Law said.
(Damn this wine BEER! Beer is good.)

My LBS had the Raleigh Talus 3.0 for ~360.00. http://www.raleighusa.com/bikes/mountain/talus-30-11/
I have not seen any reviews on that yet. It seemed fairly light, and had entry level components.
Alex, My sister recently bought a 2011 Trek Skye. My opinion is a better than average frame with entry level parts that'll probably last forever.

Go to all your local shops, ride everything in your price range. All the bikes in that range will be pretty similar. Buy the one that fits/feels the best. If there's a tie, buy from the shop you like the best.

What makes the frame "better than average"?
