Looking for some single track MTBing reachable from Nottingham.
Any suggestions where to go / where to research?
We've done a week in the Alps. Looking for something other than flat muddy tracks - single track, hills & rocky descents are ideal.
We're going within the next few weeks so I guess that may rule out many routes as we're now well into the wet & muddy winter season.
Sherwood Pines (40min drive) and Cannock Chase (1hr) are the main two trail centers located near Nottingham. Sherwood is very flowy fast and fun forest singletrack, but if you're looking for something more technical Cannock is ideal. The new Monkey Trail has some fantastic descents with many rock gardens.
Alternatively, if you are looking for a real technical challenge try the Peak District for some natural terrain riding - very technical and demanding. I think the name of the nearest village to the good trails is Hope in Derbyshire. There is one famous rocky descent called 'Jacob's Ladder', look it up online.
