I'm currently using an older Tacx Cycletrack Mag trainer, and I'm thinking about upgrading to a fluid. There are quite a few on Craigslist. What should I be looking at to make sure it's still in good condition, not leaking, and not at the end of its lifespan? I'm currently looking at Cycleops Fluids and Kurt Kinetic Road Machines. Anything else comparable that I should consider? Is it a mistake to be looking at used trainers and I should buy new? And is it worth the upgrade (I heard it's a more realistic feel, as well as a little quieter)? Thanks!

Check around for warranty information. I think that Kurt will take in anything if you have a unit that is leaking. But I may be remembering this wrong.

Looks like it's only for the original owner.

Kinetic for sure. Don't get anything else.

May as well say how this ended up.
A 25% off coupon and $0.99 shipping at Sports Authority convinced me to go new, and I picked up a Kinetic Road Machine for $255, including tax and shipping. The leak-proof resistance unit and lifetime warranty didn't hurt either. Great improvement over the old mag trainer! :thumb:

They really rock. I have two of them, I almost got a 1up and then read exactly what you did and was sold.
