General Cycling Discussion - People in the neighbourhood

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The temp was warmish today and the snow was melting. Best of all, the streets and roads were clear and dry. I went for an easy 65 km ride -- no faster than 26 km/h -- with my main training partner today. He was on his MTB with slicks and I was on my cross bike. We rode in a pretty tight paceline, and on the way back, we crossed paths with a Team Rona rider in full kit out on a training ride. I don't know which one it was -- it wasn't Jeanson or Jutras -- but she was pretty cute, and she grinned at us and waved as we passed [there wer not a lot of riders ot today]. I though that was cool.
Have you ever passed/crossed/met up with anyone famous in the bike world on one of your rides? My training buddy likes to tell of the time he sucked Genevieve Jeanson's wheel for about 30 minutes, until she dropped him like the slug everyone is to her...

My closest brush with fame was a year ago. I was out for a winter ride and was passed by a local shop owner who races a lot (amateur). I think his best was 3rd statewide time trialist. Anyhow, his shop is covered in ribbons, medals, etc.
He was out on a easy (for him) training ride, and had already picked up one straggler. He was monitoring his pace with an HRM, and didn't want anyone else to pull, so I fell in and drafted for about 10 miles, to where our paths diverged.
Hey, I thought it was pretty cool!

(I'll be brief...)
Maybe, maybe not.
One day, while climbing one of the usual long, tall hills on the way to work, some guy flies past me standing on his pedals. He climbs that way consistantly to the top, about a 2/10 of a mile (me on my granny, as usual.) Gone.
Maybe he wasn't famous, maybe he was proving something. I think he proved it!
I would like to meet Elton John on a bike. I believe he has a home in Atlanta.
