Got word from the instructor yesterday that the paper that I had written for my class was very good - meaning that I had passed the last course of my bachelors degree in nursing program.
Boy Howdy!
Flunked out of Indiana University at age 20, picked up an associates degree nursing at 35 and finally got around to "finishing school" at 60. (University of Indianapolis) (Not the oldest student in my class of RN's, either.)
Wasn't too painful - my hospital paid for all but the books.
I'm done with this school thing.........don't wanna be too knowledgeable..............

If I had an old Alfa Romeo Spider, I wonder if I could transport a long wheelbase recumbent bike on it?

I think the best quality in adult students is their appreciation of their professors and instructors, yes?

Already I'm looking back nostalgically at my college days - hanging out at the malt shop.......drinking beer and spinning platters with the coeds.....

Great job! I thought I took a long time (from 1963 to 1995) to get a math degree. I'm glad I did. It allowed me to increase my income and savings. Thanks to that, I'm going to be able to retire in January at age 65.

Thanks to the state of our healthcare delivery system and nursing shortages in recent years, I've been able to do all right as an RN with a 2-yr degree.
No automatic pay raise for a BSN but more opportunities.
And, I am more distinguished. That might be the salt-and-pepper hair, of course.

Looking at the Social Security website (http://www.ssa.gov/), it appears that more education doesn't translate to increased SS payments:lol: , so I'll just plan on working another decade or so. Gotta stay busy.

Caring for others is a noble profession. Adults in education are different than the youth who are more inclined to be self absorbed. Your next visit is medical ethics.

Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey - Koo Koo ka choo Mrs. M..................

Medical Ethics - I had the opportunity to take a philosophy/medical ethics class last Spring. Learned a few new words/concepts, including beneficence and non-maleficence. It's not a black-and-white world.

I've sorta figured out what to do right now, including finishing school (done), working and riding bikes, but am still a little unclear about this Growing Up business.

My daughter got her BSN last year, she passed her boards this year and is working in a local hospital and just loves it.
I know how hard she struggled to get through but she stuck with it and we stuck with her. I can imagine how hard it is when you are already working.

Good job, now you can set your sights on an NP.

And to paraphrase my mother, who was the eternal student:

How old would you be now if you hadn't gotten the degree?

Your mom was a woman after my own heart! Whenever someone raises an eyebrow when I mention I'm going to school, I tell them, "I'm 54, I might as well be 54 with a degree!"

Congrats!!!!

When I was 33 I decided I wanted to be a scientist when I grew up. So I went to college. I graduated last year at 41 with a BS in geology and a minor in GIS. I started out with zero math skills too: worked from basic arithmetic all the way to Calc II. I was not often the oldest student in my classes. Yes I like to go out and do field work in remote areas.

(I know, I know, I'm not 50+ yet but I really like this forum. Everyone is so level here.)

I'm working as a geoarchaeologist with an archaeological consulting company. I'm currently keeping my fingers crossed for a GIS Specialist position I applied for with another arch. con. comp.

My wife completed her Bachelors Degree at 42, working toward her Masters at 48. The cool thing was that when she started teaching at 42, she had two teen boys at home, so she understood classroom management already. (It really helped her.)

Looking for a part-time RN. If you want to work for next to nothing in a great atmosphere, shoot me a PM.

Thanks but I had to agree to continue with current hospital for two years in return for their paying for the schooling. Kind of indentured servitude.

As a Hoosier, I am, however, obligated to shoot a 'Kentucky joke' of a healthcare provider nature across the Ohio River.
I don't necessarily agree with the ideas expressed in the following 'Kentucky joke'.

With a BSN, I could go to Kentucky and be an Advanced Practice Nurse!
