Mountain Biking - First Mountain Bike - 2010 Cannondale Flash 29'er 2

Just bought a 2010 Cannondale Flash 29'er 2 for 1600 at the LBS. Since I know little about mountain bikes I had to rely on the opinions of others. I rode a couple and the Cannondale personally felt the best. Looking forward to taking it out.

Nice find! Good price too, hell I paid that much for the Flash 3 only 2 months ago! I really like the classic look of these frames, I was hooked on the 3 as soon as I saw it. Have fun!

29er eh, going for the Herman Munster look? That is actually a good choice. How tall are you, what is the terrain like where you will be riding?

Doesn't really have anything to do with anything, just curious. Some think 29ers are better suited to taller riders, and for a relatively new rider to go with a 29er is always a bit curious to me, unless of course they are very tall.

As long as the frame fits and the geometry is comfortable there's nothing wrong with a new rider getting a 29er. If they're new to the sport they have nothing to compare it to and the learning curve shouldn't be any different than those of us that got into before 29ers.

No, there's nothing wrong with a new rider on a 29er, but fit and geometry are important, and for shorter riders, finding a good fit on a 29er may be a challenge. Probably not so much at 5'10", but say 5'7"? I don't know. I hope shops aren't pushing 29er inventory on new riders because they have them in stock. Hopefully the OP was able to compare 26" and 29" and made a (somewhat) educated decision.

I'm 5'7 and fit perfectly on a 17" rigid 29er but I have really long legs and shorter arms. I like it better. But my first was a 26"
