Hopefully fellow members can shed some light on this bike.
The serial number dates the build to 3/16/87 but unlike any of the Cdales available in that era it has internal cable routing.
Also it has a steel fork, a weird little tab mount on the NDS chain stay near the tire, a pump peg on the head tube, and full 1050 group, although everything but the shifters has the "105" polished off.
Bars are modolo and probably not original as with the exage brake levers.

The paint is typical Cdale and chippy everywhere.

I am considering a trade with the owner but was hoping to get some background info first. Was this actually a team commision of any sort?
Is there any other record of cannondales from this period having internal routing?

Thanks as always.

PDXaero, Here's this: http://sanaandterry.com/cannondale/year/1987/1987.pdf . I don't think the paint's original and while it may be a super rare Cannondale frame, I don't think so, but rather someone's custom job.

Yup, looks like a home job to me, a poor job too, in my opinion.

I have seen the 87 catalog and dont doubt that it was the 105 equipped model but until the mid 90s i dont see an example with internal routing, and the paint (although not the decals) looks quintessentially cannondale.

I'm curious, which mid 90s Cannondale? Roadbike?

TIA

I've seen this bike on the Portland Craiglist too, I have a 1988 SR500 and it does not have the internal cable routing, I'm thinking it's a aftermarket paint and decal job, but the internal cable part baffles me.

Here is the real thing. All Dura-Ace. This was a team back up bike that never got used. The ones sold to customers have hand painted designs on them. It also has early aero rims on it. Also short wheelbase 37"
