so i've had some M221 mtb shoes from Shimano for about a month and put a few hundred miles on em so far and every time i ride for more than an hour i get a burning pain right in the ball of my foot over my pedal. i've tried Superfeet insoles, a gel ball-of-the-foot pad, reg. doc sholes, and various combinations of the three. i moved my cleat around, tried different socks etc, always the same thing, ONLY in my right foot, at almost exactly 60 minutes. stop and rub em out for 5-10 minutes and i'm cool for another 45min or so then bam it's back.
i talked to the bike shop i got em from suggesting possibly it's a defect in the shoe, which they sluffed off and recommended i see a podiatrist and get an orthotic or something, but i've never had a prob with any shoes before.
anyone else experienced this or have any advice. i'd hate to chuck such an expensive pair but if it comes to that i may.
i knew i should've got the sidi's but the salesguy pretty much talked me out of em and really pushed these shoes dammit...

I haven't ever had an experience like this with my clipless - but I ride with a much looser setup. The specialized hiker/clip shoe, so obviously not a rigid bodied shoe. I wonder if when your riding do you feel that everything is right in the way that your clips are setup? For example when you reach the bottom of your stroke is there any twisting or a push that you have to do to complete the rotation? I know that when I first got my clips and shoes I had trouble with one pedal holding onto my shoe more than the other - which caused me to sorta torque the ball of my foot onto the tighter side when I was pedalling hard. Since you have a burning sensation that sounds like you are creating some sort of pressure point with the pedal. Or it could be a vibration thing kinda like nascar drivers get holes burned in their soles from engine vibrations when racing.

I would maybe try and borrow a buddys shoes and test ride them for an hour or so and see the result - that could eliminate or point out a lot of things.

hope you figure it out!
