Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - what do YOU fixie for?

fer me is my primary mode of transportation. to get around where i need to be as quickly as possible, without getting hit by or running into cars.

Just so I have an excuse to read the constant stream of brilliant literature in this forum.

To pick up hipster girls. It's so hard to get up hills though. and sometimes I want to coast but I can't and I'm sad about that too. Also I try to match all the colors on my bike too, and then enter a fashion show. Full of hipsters.

Started to think about how neat an idea it was to have the brake on the cranks like that, but it can't be any more effective than a coaster brake ? Basically a rear wheel brake, lock ups and skidding in a panic, still only about 25 % of the braking. A front brake caliper or disc still makes more sense to me. Although I will admit it almost had me on-line locating & pricing one out. ;)

Oh. the original question, SS/FG because I wanted a bike that didn't have all the complexities of a road bike, yet had the relative speed of one with enough GI that was neither too weak nor overwhelmingly too strong.

I ride a fixie because I want to feel 20 years younger..
