I have a UO-14 with nice alloy bits. It is too big for me (64cm). I am thinking about selling it to help fund the purchase of a Karate Monkey. I have a UO-8 with steel bits, cottered crank, all that. It fits me perfectly. I am thinking about keeping it. For a long time. That makes me want to strip the Alu bits off of the 14 and putting them on the 8. Will the 6 speed wheel work on the 5 speed bike? What do you guys think

If it were me I would buy a wheel set for the U08, and sell the U014.
That way, you could have a little extra toward your 29'er - and 90% of the benefit that you would have gotten with the "alloy bits" on your U08. besides,

I'll admit I am partial to the cottered cranks on the U08. IMO they look better, and (functionally) they're not really any different from the cottered cranks. Just a little heavier is all and slightly more effort to overhaul.

PS- Maybe someone can weigh in on interchangeability for the cups and bb - I assume the Eighties Quebec-built U014 still had the same threading as the U08, but I could be wrong. If I am, swapping the crank would not be convenient.

Slightly different opinion than auchencrow, though it would depend on what you could get for the UO-14 in your area. Personally, since the bikes are almost equivalent I'd put the alloy stuff on the bike you want to ride, and piece together the other bits to sell. The 6 speed wheel will fit fine.
