Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Vintage De Rosa Pista

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Can anyone verify that this is actually a De Rosa frameset? The rear triangle was rebuilt at the time of a re-paint. Decal set is from the 70's, the frame is supposedly from the 80's. No serial #.
I have poked around a little and haven't been able to verify the authenticity of this frameset, outside of what is found on http://prollyisnotprobably.com/.
Thanks in advance!

That's most beautiful track bike I've ever seen.
I prefer an ugly SS/FG. No one wants to steal it!
That De Rosa is more like a painting or valuable jewelry.
Too bad its an instant bike thief magnet! :(

Oo, pretty. C&V forums are probably more helpful in the "identify my old bike department" . . .

D'oh, totally forgot to read the CL ad...
That's a mighty purty bike pictured there. I've always had a soft spot for De Rosa.

+1. they will know, but i'll say a serial number will go great lengths in determining authenticity.
it does have the triangle out of the BB behind the seattube, as de rosa's had, as well as the obvious marking on the seatstays. i would ASSUME it's real. the fork looks correct too
it's one HELL of a copy if it's not original.

Fake. It's obviously a Kilo.
$1300 for and old "restored" frame and fork? No thanks.

Yes sir.

+1 to this too, though. Very pretty, but I don't think any frame is worth that much to me. Unless maybe it's titanium. :D

here we are.
i can enjoy the HELL out of life on a 200 dollar frame. until i start pulling down big bucks, i'm not about to go thinking a 1300 frameset, no matter WHAT IT IS, would be worth the 1100 extra when i'm on the road. this bike is the kind of thing you hang from the ceiling with fishing line and let adorn your luxury condo as you take in the skyline with an italian fashion model and a glass of scotch that costs more than the frameset.
De Rosa's usually sell for $$$. NOS = $$$$$. It's a beautiful frame regardless of personal implied value.

Frankly only a bike made of Scrodium would be worth that price tag.

Thanks, very helpful. Maybe I'll find one made out of Youradip**** while i'm at it.
In the meantime, I don't believe you will be finding too many titanium De Rosa's for $1300.

Despite all the fancy cut outs, engraving, lining etc, this is a very ordinarily crafted frame that is no better than some modern lugged frames being manufactured in Taiwan and sold for less. If you really want something special, then you need to look at custom built frames that represent may hours of careful sanding, filing and thinning of the lugs and other markers of master craftmanship.
Is that so?
If i'm not mistaken, you are saying that a hand made vintage steel De Rosa is no better than, let's say a Taiwanese assembly line Bianchi pista? Also that if i am after real quality I should go custom? Let me get the logic behind this.

Please carefully read what I said and look at the photos.
I guess I read it from the wrong angle.

Even though I've always had nice bikes, I used to think "a bike is a bike" and then a De Rosa fell into my lap and everything changed after one ride.
yack yack assembly line Bianchi pista
let me get the logic behind when bianchi pistas were lugged and made in taiwan....

5,258 post & climbing huh? Do you spend your days & nights on this site? Who said anything about lugged? ...And yes, they are manufactured in Taiwan. I used the Bianchi Pista as an example because of it's price & popularity. Anyway, as I already stated, I misread the post I was relying to.

Who are you talking to?
And I meant a general titanium (road) frame and was no longer referring to De Rosa at that point.

yup, pretty much.

if you're still asking this, you're still misreading.
I don't think you have any idea of what you are talking about. You seem to be a bored dude looking for some drama on a bicycle forum. I'm glad you are proud of that. I just needed some info on a frame. Perhaps we can start another thread entitled Fight Club? I'm there.

I love my De Rosa but would never pay $1300 for a frameset, that is kind of a lot of money. Unless you are racing it on the track or something...

I must say I do favor your taste in bikes, and the grips arent really jackass imo.
However that attitude's not going to yield any better responces, and the giant ball sack also happens to be a mod.

Yeah, I mean.. I regularly see him dropping knowledge bombs. Never a "+1" type of post.
I think dude was genuinely looking for some information about the frame, though pointed to C&V for some reason didn't take that advice. What something is worth is a personal decision, and annoys the **** out of me when people chime in about their 200.00 frames and how glorious it is. Maybe a frame is worth 200.00, but I love it and want it so bad, that I pay 800.00 for it? Did that affect YOUR wallet, YOUR income in any way?
It's worth whatever you are wiling to pay for it. Simple as that.

Rant wasn't meant for you, Scrod. I just happened to quote you about CC.
I think my original point was: was it really warranted that he got banned because a bunch of hipsters came in here and were like OMGZ IS THAT EXPENSIVE, SO STUPID LOLZ. I would have gotten a bit frustrated by those replies too, difference was I usually just don't reply, he wanted to keep replying.
LOLZ+1.

On BikeForums, everyone express their opinions in their own little way, whether through lolcats, sarcasm, gorilla pictures or whatever, bottom line, they're just our opinions. It is up to the OP to take the opinions personally, or just let it go by. People take **** too seriously in here.
