This morning on Triple J, it was revealed that on this weekend in 1992, the number one record in this country was Achy-Breaky Heart -- and it was there for another seven weeks! Evidently, this means that at least somebody out there must have bought a copy (or maybe a lot of copies if it was just somebody). It also means that popularity does not necessarily equate to quality, but I digress.

In the past on this forum, I have confessed to at one point listening to both Bros, and MC Hammer. What I want to know is, what really crappy music have you owned over the years? It doesn't have to be something that you still own or listen to, but it has to be something that you once thought was the greatest thing since sliced bread. The more out of fashion and embarrassing the better.

Oh yeah, the first tape I bought (this was before CD's) was Slim Dusty, when I was about five years old.

My first CD's came from Columbia House, 10 for a penny(or something like that). I can't remember which one's I got. My first record I ever bought was Boston's first album. The first tape, 8 track, I bought, was something by Charlie Daniel's.

Wrong record, I was looking for Space Oddity,..but it looked so coool.

A bad\ good record I might like\ not to still have would be Kiss: Destroyer.
A record that used to grace the walls, never the turntable: $ex Pistol$: Never mind the bollocks.
Nice colors.

First tape I ever bought as a kid...... Miami Sound Machine - Eyes of Innocence

The truly embarrassing one? I've got everybody beat - not even Barry Manilow - Greatest hits beats this:

The one I got for free with my Pizza Hut pizza Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Out of Our Shells
(Could be worse this guy's hosting the songs on mp3 http://www.mikeystmnt.com/media/sounds/songs/coots/ ) I gave that one to my sister after a month or two but I did own it.

First cd I ever got was "greetings from asbury park" by Bruce Springsteen. My dad bought it for me because he was tired of me listening to "all that crap on the radio" WORST cd i ve ever paid money for? Easily has to be The Beautiful Letdown by Switchfoot. I really liked "we were ment to live" THEN i listened to the rest of the cd talk about a night and day difference and NOT for the good! Absolute garbage IMHO. After all these years i realize dad was right, the radio IS crap.

I have tried to give it away a few dozen times, leaving it in friends cars, under there bed... eh, right now its the last CD in my case.

I bought three of Heaven 17's cassettes after seeing them on the USA network overnight video show back in the early 80s. I can't remember the name of that show, but it was great.

Heaven 17 was like a glam dance band from the UK, not the type of music I would usually care to hear. Anyone care to guess how they got their name?

First 45: Michael Jackson - Thriller
First Cassette: Don't remember, but I know I had Poison
First CD: Bobby Brown

I once bought a Vitamin C release cause she looked cute on the cover. After hearinghte first 5 seconds on each track, as I couldn't make it any further without hitting next, I took the CD out and threw it across the room.

Lately I don't buy music at all for political reasons, so I listen to the tunes in my collection that have survived the test of time. Occassionaly the radio, but only to remind me how much better my selections are.

I know where the heaven 17 got their name: Clockwork Orange. But I don't remember much of their music.

My crappy music: A barry Manilow record I won in a radio contest, and the soundtrack for Saturday Night fever I got as a gift from clueless relatives. HOwever, as much as I hated disco those songs weren't too bad. "How deep is your love" isn't really a disco song, but a romantic ballad, and even "Disco Inferno" isn't bad as far as disco songs go.

A CD compilation of songs from the NPR broadcast series "Hearts of Space". Kind of sounds like Pink Floyd minus the lyrics and musical talent.

First album purchased by myself: Pat Benetar's Get Nervous and I'm not embarrased in the least.

Luckily I have steered clearn of anything too embarrassing. However, I do own one Pet Shop Boys discography cassette which I purchased years after listening to their Being Boring cd when the record store manager put it on daily. No bad, really. That Neil Tennant has a pleasant voice.

Some people at work were raving about the Dave Mathews Band. I went out on a limb and bought "Before These Crowded Streets"without listining to it. Listened to it one time. Really boring. I can't believe all the hype surrounding this group.
