1974 Varsity . This one needs some serious work, but most all is cosmetic. I'll just flip it as is . I just can't pass up on an old bike . [ if the price is right ] There are so many around , that I guess someone will be working on all these old Schwinns for years to come !

Does the boat in the background need an anchor?

Boat has a good anchor. This Varsity is not THAT bad. Just has some kind of skin disease !

If you're flipping it as is you must have gotten it for free? I wouldn't think a Varsity that needs a lot of work would sell for much more than $15 or so.

You can clean and rebuild an entire Varsity in an afternoon. Might clear enough $ to buy a Happy Meal. Good bike for college kids to get around campus on.

Ha, I should start buying up Varsities and selling the frames on ebay. I wonder if many of them actually sell at those prices.

lol :)
I have done good flipping Varsities in the past. The hipsters really like them. They are the only steel wheel, gas pipe frame bike I bother with. And even then, I basically have to get it for free to make it worth the effort. Got three right now (two Continentals and a Varsity).

Same here. He's got em listed...that's half the battle.
IMHO you've gotta be a hardcore ebayer to want to make 40-50 bux flipping varsity frames considering the hassle of selling and packing frames and the shipping costs to send a 15 pound frame through the mail.

Those prices do seem optimistic.Around here, a good frame will sell for $40.

Varsities are easy money, you won't make a fortune on them but the clean up great and people love that Schwinn name.

SOLD, ,,,,,,,to the first person who looked at it , for $40 .
You should have held out for more!
...a 15 pound frame...
Is that all they weigh??? I would have seriously guessed 20 or so. My God those bikes are heavy. I still remember being amazed that mine was much more of a heavy awkward hassle to transport up stairs than my cheap heavy mountain bike.

What part of the country are you in?

Florida. Many people around here want these old ten speeds. Some just restore them as original, others to make " fixed gear ' out of with newer aluminum wheels. I just did not have the time to work on it. I have about 6 bikes right now.
This is an ad I " borrowed " from a local C'list.

Holy crap! 100 smackers for a frame when the whole bike is worth $75 on a good day? Yikes!!!!
Yeah what's with those old Varsity fans?

I don't ride road bikes, so I am not a fan of any road bike. I live on a long, sandy, limerock road & don't like to fall !! Those old bikes are " ROCK solid." That is why so many of them are still around . Some people really like them & some don't .

I just spent some quality time with a varsity this evening. I cleaned and repacked the wheel bearings, and now I'm working on the bottom bracket. The bike is going to a friend who mentioned an interest in one he saw at a garage sale last year. Turns out I had one that was given to me, but it's too small for me or my children, so he will be the new owner. I often give away bikes that were given to me, some become parts, some live on. The Varsitys seem to have nine lives If someone puts in a little elbow grease.
