I recently acquired a Suntour Superbe Pro FD and wanted to know if there was any chance it could be used with a triple crankset - specifically a soon-to-arrive VO Grand Cru triple. My guess is no, but if anyone has successfully (or unsuccessfully) used the derailleur with a triple I'd be grateful to hear your comments.

Never tried the combination, but I would have to say no. That derailleur is set to work with a double crankset and does not have a long enough cage to work on a triple. I stand to be corrected, but as far as I have always known, triple front derailleurs have a physically longer cage design in order to drop the chain down to the smallest of the triple front chainrings. However, I have a Campy Nuovo Record front derailleur that has worked fine with my TA triple crankset on my Holdworth touring bike for more than 20 years.

The cage is too short for the radius difference between the largest and smallest chain ring.
The in/out parameters are very likely too narrow to accommodate the outside reach necessary to avoid rubbing on the big ring.
I'll bet you have no problem trading it for a triple, though.

The Suntour Cyclone MK-II would have no problem with a triple and I do have an extra or two...:innocent:

Thanks, y'all, for the feedback.
23skidoo...Funny you should mention it, but I also picked up a NOS Cyclone MK II. The aesthetics of the SP was leaning on me a bit.
