wow, so i skim through full categories on ebay (usually "road bikes") just to see what's out there without doing a full on search, looking for a deal or something unusual.
anyway i came across this colnago and thought it looked pretty wild and cool.

little out of my price range however

Someone is obviously very happy to win that and the seller even happier i suspect!
Personally i think that it's a ridiculous waste of money - there's nothing that amazing, cool or even unique about a polka dot paint scheme.
I haven't heard of the people who teamed up with Colnago (maybe they're supposed to be cool)
To me it reeks of some arty types trying to cash in .
I could think of lots of other things (bike related) to spend $12k on!

What is that? Like $50 per polka dot?

Yeah, I noticed that auction when it hit 6 grand, which I thought was a lot. I've got a friend who has a 56cm sitting in a closet, I sent him a link to the auction yesterday but haven't heard back from him yet, I hope he didn't have a heart attack!

Haha, that'll look good built up with deep v's, pink oury's, a basket, and a Rainbow Bright doll in the basket.

At $12K you'd think they'd at least throw in a lousy seat binder bolt in the deal......

I like that frame quite a bit. I didn't bid, but I thought $6K would take it. I was way, way off the mark.

If you are tall, you have another chance: EBAY LINK (http://cgi.ebay.com/Rare-Colnago-La-Carrera-Futura-Master-Pista-Frame-60-cm_W0QQitemZ220697206901QQcategoryZ98084QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26i ts%3DI%252BC%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D10%26pmod%3D400170082581%26ps%3D63%2 6clkid%3D4988296242098111615)
Buy it now is only $10K! And you might as well pick up a spare fork (http://cgi.ebay.com/Colnago-Carrera-Futura-Master-Pista-Bike-Fork-700c-/170564353722).
(Note that one listing says only 33 of these frames were made and yet there are 7 bids for the fork. That's the bidding war to watch!)

I saw that other one, but it's too big for me. Plus, the thought of spending $10K on a track frame makes me a little queasy.
BTW, did you see this one? [Click!]

Guess this proves that $0.99 starting bids are fine no matter the value of the item...

I remember the road listing from way back. I'm surprised the track POS sold.

Cool frame. Is that a gap in the head tube lug (next to last pic)?

Looks like a shadow or reflection, but it's hard to tell, what with that area being so out of focus.

Not unique? Fair enough. Can you name another frame with a polka dot paint scheme? I can think of one, but it's also a Colnago, one that has a "king of the mountains" motif. I wouldn't have paid $12K for this frame, not by a long shot. But I do like the paint. To me, it's a refreshing departure from the many staid, unimaginative paint schemes I've seen.

That's nice. I don't think they should have put cable stops on it, though.
Clown bike.

I picture it with a brakeless SA kickback hub and all polished parts. I have no problem with using a rear brake. I'm a bit too old for hipster fashion.
there was the futura and there was also a stash scheme as well. it was blue with arrows and imho, nicer.
still, price is ridic.

That makes sense if you're going to use it with a freewheeling hub. I do prefer the two cable stops over the three guides on the top of the TT.
I don't consider the absence of a rear brake on a fixed gear machine "hipster fashion", though. I quickly realized the rear brake on my fixed gear was pointless, so I removed it.

I saw that one on VS, too. It looks really sharp. I'd be happy with either one.

That looks superb. Back in the mid '80's I achieved a similar look (for a while) by carefully wrapping my Raleigh Gran Sport in 'chrome' sellotape! I think I'd prefer that frame better tho' if it had a sloping fork crown.....

I through $12,000 was crazy, then I saw this (http://cgi.ebay.com/FUTURA-2000-COLNAGO-PROTOTYPE-ROAD-FRAME-1-1-RARE-NEW-/160507106545?pt=Road_Bikes&hash=item255ef814f1) on ebay today. Same dots for more money.
