Classic & Vintage - My first road bike.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I don't really know much about vintage road bikes so sorry if I sound like an idiot.
Picked this bad boy up on craigslist. Needs alot of work but its still ridable. The frame was lightly scratched here and there, no major dents. After a 15min ride around the block, it looked like the brake lines were gonna snap soon so I put the bike aside for now. I'm having trouble finding out what type of Fuji it is. Some stickers on the frame read, VALite tubed, 414 single butted.

Looks to me like you have a 1986 in Winner Red.

that front wheel (non-original) is probably worth 5X the value of rest of the bike.

Looks like a pretty good snag for a first outing by a confessed newb. Something funny about that seatpost though...

+1. Nice bike. Congrats.
(The seat post clamp appears to be installed backwards)

Well, if you are interested enough in learning about the bike to post on C&V, you may already be hooked, but just don’t know it yet. I’d say, if the bike fits you and you like it, as you obviously do, you’re going to have a blast fixing it up. Before you know it, you’ll sell your car to buy bike stuff, your significant other will get jealous or leave you altogether, and people will start thinking you’re a slob because you walk around with grease under finger nails all the time.

thanks for the heads-up on the seatpost.
Yes I do like this bike. Its been keeping me busy the whole day today. After a minor inspection, it looks like a few things need to be re-greased and the brake pads need a change. As for the front wheel, it says Shimano Wheels on the hub. I've been using Shimano fishing equipment for years and only now I found out they make bike products as well.
